Fruit is Bad??? Fructose, whether from the HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) found in soft drinks and junk food, or from eating/drinking lots of fruits or fruit juice has many effects inside your body. This will help you understand those effects so you can make informed decisions about your diet.

Modern fruit is much larger and sweeter than ancient fruits. Modern fruits, along with honey and agave nectar may sound natural and healthy, but you should watch this video before you eat any more because it is important.

My God the varying info from the doctors on here. Fruit= good...No wait...Fruit= bad Veggies= good....no wait veggies bad. Meat=Good....No wait...Meat= bad. Eggs= Good....No wait.....Eggs Bad. Keto=Good...No wait.... Keto bad Carnivore, Paleo, IF, OMAD, Vegan. Dairy= Good....no wait.....dairy bad What the actual F**K?
  • Fruit was never meant to be 12 months a year in the supermarket. They were seasonal and humans ate them according to their natural flourishing cycles which were relegated to certain seasons of the year even when irrigated agriculture was developed. Fruit are nature's dessert.

The food pyramid from the 80’s is like a hopscotch game to win diabetes.

The doctor says that his conclusions are research-based, and provides a list of links to the research articles in the video description. How many people even open the description, let alone clicking on the links or reading the research. Those that do will find that almost all the mentioned studies pertain to high-fructose sweetened beverages, and not a single study is based on actual consumption of fruits. And one study is on galactose - found in dairy products!

If fruit be so bad - why your last name berry?!...... Lol! Sorry, couldn't resist 😂

I’ve tried pretty much every “diet” going over my lifetime...52 years old, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, multiple allergies, the list goes on! Came across your channel 10 weeks ago, and started the keto way of eating (although tbh I’m veering more towards carnivore) and OH MY GOSH I’m feeling SO much better in myself! PLUS I’ve lost 50lbs in weight, lost 42 inches off my body and now my visceral fat is in the “normal” range!!! Thanks Dr. Berry for your channel - your videos and information contained within them have been an absolute LIFE-CHANGER to me!!! 😁👍🏻

I started Keto a few months ago, and randomly found your channel yesterday. I've had asthmatic symptoms for over 2 decades and only a little over a year ago did i address it with my GP (as I didn't want people to think I'm out coughing in public with Covid). Got prescribed an inhaler, but didn't feel it worked and assumed I was only using it wrong and didn't bother using it much. I'd get these 2 month long coughs about once or twice a year, but I noticed, I didn't get it this "season" after starting Keto. Watching this video, makes me believe that cutting carbs/sugars has really benefited me and is giving me a boost to keep going. Thanks so much Dr. Ken!

The longer I live the more I realize we have been misled about our diets, or at least me and my diet. Four years ago I started a fruit smoothie and vegetable eating plan and, at first it made me happy. But soon I had little energy and would get shaky. I quit that sh!t and about 4 months later I began keto. In six months I lost 55 lbs and had more energy than I ever could have imagined. You, Dr. Berry, as well as a few others ARE MOTIVATING me. I'm 64 yrs btw, and have recently begun going low carb, high fat, moderate protein once again....for good this time, I hope!

I grew up in the 1970s when apparently everything we were told about nutrition was wrong. I am still unlearning all those myths and bad habits. I will cross juice bars off my list permanently. Thanks Dr. Berry!

Dr. Berry this is a video I didn't want to see but one I needed to see. You will be remembered as one of the great doctors among many pharmaceutical bribed doctors. You sir are NOT a legalized drug dealer. You are a TRUE DOCTOR. Thank You for your outstanding service & honesty Dr. Berry .

I wanted to take a minute to thank you for posting PUBLISHED RESEARCH! I am completing my major in psychology and somehow nutrition has made its way into my curriculum. You have made it easy for me to navigate through my discussions on nutrition by linking relevant research! Thank you!

I did that same route he mentioned in this video. I ate veggies, greens and fruit smoothies. After a health crisis I went vegetarian thinking it was the 'healthiest' diet. And then I did a stent of veganism which was extremely hard. After that I ate Paleo strongly plant based. Granted I may have developed leaky gut from years prior of eating the SAD (Standard American Diet which turns out is really as Sad American Diet) but what I learned is that diet choices are huge for health and for how we look and feel. When eating vegetarian my Triglycerides and VLDL were within normal 'conventional' ranges. Since going Paleo Triglycerides are now close to 60 (optimal) having dropped from 97 and my VLDL was lowered from 19 to 14. I learned the hard way that plants can harm health. First I noticed that bread was not agreeing with me and my doctor tested for Coeliac disease aka Celiac disease. While I did not test positive for Celiac he strongly suggested I go gluten free for 3 to 6 months to see if my stomach pain ceased. It did in short order so I've been off gluten for 10+ years. I noticed that many people I know who had also 'cleaned' up their diet and went 'vegetarian' were still struggling with health issue. I went on to identify 'Nightshade 'foods (main ones are tomato, potato, eggplant, peppers (not black pepper) and paprika (made from peppers), high histamine foods, lectins, oxalates and salicylates were all causing me symptoms. Bottom line I learned that all foods have pros and cons to each individual person's system and it is best to keep learning and experimenting to see what foods and food plan will fuel each person the best. That being said, I believe diet while important it is way down on the list of more Important health factors. For cutting edge health information I also follow the work of neurosurgeon, Dr. Jack Kruse MD I think this is Dr Kruse's order of importance. 1. SUNLIGHT and LIGHT - Taken in the correct ways! 2. Circadian Rhythm Light viewing behavior has the biggest influence on Circadian Rhythm. We need to get bright light into the eyes first thing in the morning, Sun and then full spectrum lighting. It does two things it triggers healthy levels of cortisol which promotes wakefulness and the ability to focus throughout the day. It also sets a timer for the onset of Melatonin the sleep hormone to be produced later in the day. Melatonin is inhibited by light. So, by viewing morning light these two timers are set, the one, for wakefulness which begins at once and one, to produce sleepiness later after sunset. Natural blue light early in the day is what you want 2 to 10 minute minimum up to 2 hours maximum is optimal! 3. DHA 4. Limiting blue light 5. Water (spring water) 6. Sleep 7. Cold 8. Psychological Stress 9. Exercise 10. Diet ........................> I'd like to know what Dr. Ken D. Berry's top ten are! I personally have two more criteria on my top 10 <................. Learn about and aim for optimal health. I believe a great start is to listen to all of Dr. Ken Berry MD's work ...from my studies he is spot on ... with great teaching technique, he is easy to understand and has accurate information.

I can confirm the claim about gout. My gout pain immediately shows up again when I eat a lot of fruit. Eating meat has not caused any gout issues for me yet.
  • @MichaelHplus
Fruit fear from a doctor who confuses isolated fructose from fructose in fruit. No, your patients aren’t sickly from eating too much fruit.
  • @BigDaddy4Real
I really respect and appreciate you providing links and sources of the studies that you researched. This makes a very transparent proof of evidence for your reasoning... you are the TRUTH. Please keep sharing, I'll support you. Thank you so much!
  • You have changed my life Ken! Thank you so much! I started the keto diet about two and a half almost three months ago. I'm down 40 pounds from 275. I absolutely feel ridiculously awesome!. Aside from the surgery that I'm going to have to have because of my back, other than that I feel great.
  • @i.m.hidden2788
So glad you mentioned Neisha's channel! I've subbed on your recommend and she really has some wonderful, down-to-earth, positive content. I'm so grateful to both of you and all you do to help others!!

I had a fall in February couldn't work out why I don't drink alcohol I collapsed. I was having home made fruit smoothies regularly thinking I was being healthy I was found two days later I developed a pressure sore very deep. I developed gout. I must of had too much fructose that's why I fell I'm sure. thank you to your videos I am now following carnivore diet no more fruit and vegetable smoothies for me. the pressure wound is luckily healed now. Its only been two days of no fruit or vegetables or sugar I have a gout flare up atm. I'm obviously sensitive to fructose. for twenty years before I was doing smoothies I was following the Atkins diet perfectly healthy with that it all got bad with the fruit and vegetable smoothies. I'm telling my story to confirm what you are saying Dr Berry. thank you for your wisdom.

A couple of comments related to this video - one is that there’s a wide spectrum between having three fruit smoothies a day and a handful of blueberries. It would be more helpful if you could provide some recommendations somewhere in the middle ground between these two extremes. I have one fruit smoothie every morning with half a cup of blueberries and 4-6 medium/large strawberries and one fruit at lunch. I have suffered none of the stated effects of high fructose consumption. I have seen lots of videos decrying fructose and fruit consumption but most meta-studies I’ve seen show a positive correlation between eating fruit and lifespan/healthspan. Also, there’s generally a documented benefit to eating blueberries and apples (not the super-sweet variants out today). My other comment on this video is you list some studies supporting your claims, which is great - but it would be more helpful for you to actually summarize the studies in terms of quality and results and point to some of the key findings (beyond just the general claims you make). I believe part of the problem is you have to consider when and how fruit is being consumed - e.g. with protein or fat or other carbs or by itself. There’s also a gut component as you point out - lectin can be digested in the gut with a proper micriobiome - this component needs to be considered imo.
