“He is in a groove with his voice, almost like how a drummer is in a groove” - proceeds to do the best drum break of all time 😂
  • @iaincollins5743
The vocoder was on the backing vocal, controlled by the keyboard player, who's also controlling the 808 hihat line. Obviously the main drum line is held down by the first guy, we designed the performance so Phil could be nice and relaxed and just do the 'solo' part on his kit while preserving the dynamic element of the vocal part.

It's because drums come so natural to him. 50+ years of drumming and 40+ years of singing while drumming. Knowing where his health is right now, watching this brought me to tears when he hit those drums.

There is nothing more 1980's than the sound of Phil Collins drums.
  • @aydh83
People in the audience when he sits at the drums: “I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life.”
  • @jaredpatrick
The crowd starts going nuts as he approaches the drum set because that’s one of the most famous drum breaks of all time. They knew what was coming.
  • @threeer02
4 decades on..and this is still THE drum solo. Every time it is played, the volume goes up. Way up. Immortal song

The look on your face at the 18th minute and the rapid blinking of your eyelids says exactly what his music makes you feel. Phil Collins, the singer, writer and drummer is brilliant.

You know those chills? We've been feeling them for 42 years now. That's Phil Collins.
  • "almost like a drummer would be in a groove"...classic, perfectly timed comment!
  • @VorlonAngel
The loook on your face once he started drumming said, "WTF JUST HAPPENED?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 It was great. Glad you liked it.
  • @miniscenesgb
the percussion - Phil. He was Genesis's drummer - then Peter Gabriel left, and Phill said he'd have a go at singing. I'm glad you're as impressed with him as all us Brits are :)
  • @JPBennett
Phil Collins was a drummer who accidentally starting singing. He pioneered gated reverb on drums, that classic 80s drum sound. Phil Collins, a legend.
  • The older I get, the more I appreciate what a singularly amazing musical talent Phil Collins really is.
  • @neilpearce
"It's really hard to play the drums and sing at the same time" - Phil Collins..."Hold my beer!"
  • It’s heartbreaking that he will never play the same way again…one of the greatest drummers of all time
  • When he starts the drums, NEVER PAUSE. It is a crime against humanity.
  • @peiiider
One of the most iconic drum fills in history, by one of the best known drummers of all time.
  • Elizabeth's reaction when Phil started playing the drums while singing (without missing a single beat) is my reaction every time I see a live performance of this song 😃It is truly amazing.
