If you don't get goose bumps and all over chills when those drums hit, you're dead inside

Phil Collins literally looks like an accountant with a weekend band. He’s the most unassuming bad ass I’ve ever seen and he’s the unofficial musical Director of the show Miami Vice lol. Phil is the 80s

The gorilla association is from an advert years ago, I think it was Cadbury chocolate, with a guy in a gorilla suit doing that drum riff.

She said “I hope it’s good” lmao. I couldn’t help but chuckle

Phil is a genuine great person. I was fortunate to actually meet him and be invited by him and his second drummer Chester Thompson to their Genesis concert in '82. I worked at the hotel they stayed at and when they asked if I was going to the [sold out] show, I said I wasn't able to get tickets at the time so they asked for my full name and said to just show up at the will-call window any of the two days with a date, and waiting for me were two VIP badges for both shows, one that I still have to this day. I've seen Phil with Genesis and on his own several times and each show were phenomenal. An Iconic super talent.

He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).
  • What a lot of people miss is that the drum kit is hidden below stage level. It rises into view as the music builds to that drum riff. That’s why the crowd go wild as he steps behind the drum kit.
  • Phil Collins is the best. He sold over 150 million albums as a solo artist as well as 150 million albums as part of the band Genesis. He was level with Micheal Jackson and Madonna in the 80s but look liked your local plumber 😂 “Take me Home” is a great live, either from this tour of the 1990 series tour. I have seen Phil Collins live 5 times on his own and 5 times with Genesis and he was incredible every time.

Genuine talent, imagine being in the crowd and watching that, amazing.
  • @kriashun
Saw him in 74 in GR MI. when he was in GENESIS…. (Lamb lies down) I’m 68 still loving it!!
  • @pamelariker5525
OMG I can't even imagine what it would have been like to be at that concert. Just mind blowing.
  • @Vee1music-lover
This performance right here is GOLD! Never gets old and I’ve watched dozens of reactions of this!
  • @kdub3871
I was fortunate enough to see him on his "Not dead Yet" tour a couple of years ago and I got to see his son Nicholas drum this set and tears welled up in my eyes.😢👏🏾🤯

Phil Collins was my very first concert ever. I saw him perform in 1985 at a venue called, “Poplar Creek” near Chicago. I was 16. It was phenomenal. He performed this same song walking to the drums and killed it then too. ❤ Also the first time I heard this song was in a 1983 movie called, “Risky Business” during the train scene!🔥

Thank you sweetie for waiting until the end to comment! Soooooo many commentators break into the flow of the music to offer their words, which are totally out of place. You perceived reality and your words complement the moment! I liked and subed. Thank you so much!!!!

I know Phil Collins, I know this song, had the album, heard this on "Miami Vice" and have watched this video dozens of times. So got no problem watching it again. "Take Me Home" from this same show is another great one.
  • This is from Paris '94, the entire 2½ hour concert is available here on YT. It well worth grabbing a cold one or 5 and enjoying this Master musician at work For us old farts this track defined the generation of music. Yes Cadbury Gorilla 🥁🦍🥁

You can see the anger within and externally as he questioning himself, when he wrote the song and this was his release. Always good to see a reaction from people who are seeing this from outside their usual music genre. It's Mike Tyson's best part so there's no higher honor lol
