From the VHS cover:
Among the senior citizens of quiet Kingsmarkham, these apple-faced kindly country folk, the world of passion and desires is not yet dim. Did septuagenarians Mr. and Mrs. Betts murder their unbearable old mother Ivy Wrangton, to inherit her house? Gossip among the Castle Road post office ladies says that when Mrs. Wrangton 'died' there would be no inquest; yet Elsie Parrish, Mrs. Wrangton's best friend, who also got a little something in her will, won't hear of any foul play.
The Case at first seems as innocuous as the suicide of childless Ann Waterton, an old lady befriended by lonely mixed-up teenager, Sophie Grant.
What can be the dark side of this sweet story?

  • I was the Non talking Ambulanceman I was a real Ambulance person I now own my own Ambulance Company
  • This series can be watched again and again - for the pure pleasure of the convoluted plot and the superb acting
  • Good acting by brilliant actors, with intelligent scripts. Far better than the stuff forced upon viewers these days.
  • That slice of ordinary life with it's troubles and all the age groups and modest incomes. The strong structure of a troubled teenager who is actually a good student and responsible - we don't see enough of those, or their concerns are trivialised and reduced to problems between peers. Most teenager troubles are actually to do with the adults around them. Great viewing.

Thank you so much for uploading these. I loved the original Rendell whodunits, and I love these TV adaptations too. George Baker made a perfect Wexford!
  • Wexford was my favourite tv programme in the nineties, I'm very glad and happy that you've put these up Paul. Thank you so much. We're on our 5th episode now, 'An Unwanted Woman.' I miss the nineties so much and the better quality television we had then, among other things. They're as good as I remembered them to be.
