Greetings travelers, commissioner here! Therewolf did a phenomenal job with this track. I absolutely love how the trumpet and erhu make this feel like a musical back and forth between the two fighters with a tense buildup of both instruments at the end. I am a massive Octopath Traveler fan and Octopath Traveler 2 is my favorite game of all time. I have also been a huge fan of DEATH BATTLE for almost 13 years now. It was only a matter of time before I decided to commission my favorite game into a track inspired by my favorite show. As for the matchup itself, Hikari seemed the most fit for a DEATH BATTLE and Ike felt like the best opponent since they both share the exact same catchphrase of “I fight for my friends!” They have more connections than just that, like how they both witnessed the deaths of their fathers and traveled their respective continents in search of like-minded allies to overthrow corrupt generals that have taken over whole kingdoms, but the catchphrase comparison is warrant for a matchup by itself haha. Fun fact: Ike’s voice actor (Greg Chun) also plays Alfyn from the first Octopath, who happens to be my all-time favorite video game character. I would like to point out one thing for those that are familiar with Octopath; why not Ike VS Olberic? While I do like that matchup, Hikari seems like a better fit because he has more to work with in terms of character, story, and abilities. Also, the whole ‘same catchphrases' thing. Once again, I want to thank Therewolf for an amazing job and Xenn for the beautiful artwork. Also, shoutout to Arot for having the first Octopath commission. You beat me to it lol. Have a good day. :)

Two Octopath Traveler songs released within a month of each other is crazy. And both times, you absolutely killed it.

I loved it when Ike said "For the Radiant Dawn" and Radiant Dawned all over that other guy
  • I can feel the Octopath Traveler 2 music motif flowing inside my veins, holy shit.

Second Octopath Traveler track in a month's time ? That's pretty nice even if I still know absolutely nothing of that game. From the track art, name and the fact that it included Fire Emblem I expected a pretty heroic and adventurous track upon first listening to it. And in the end it's pretty much that. It's a relatively standard but really enjoyable adventurous and heroic song that still manages to stand out via its use of very catchy melodies and interesting instruments. It isn't revolutionary but it doesn't need to be that to be enjoyable. Altho this does mean that I don't have much to say on the song as a whole. I mean, it's a really nice song for sure but as said it's relatively standard in its form: it has a very heroic feel with fast and ascending notes that make the whole thing feel uplifting while also conveying scale and power well. Special mention to the use of the trumpets throughout the song that add a really cool side to the song too by combining really well with the other instruments. Well, I guess I can note one entire part of the song as particularly standout as it manages to combine all the aspects of the song into a really appreciable package. And that'd be the whole entire ending arc of the song starting at 2:45 (well, the song has extremely fluid transitions from segment to segment so really it's up to you what you consider the start of the final segment so my choice is a bit arbitrary). It captures really well that feeling of heroism by making the track an suite of different segments that all sound more intense and epic than the last which makes it feel really cool to listen to. It's not groundbreaking once again but it just sounds good and sometimes that's all a song needs to have to be appreciable. Overall this song is relatively standard by Therewolf Media, well, standards: a genuinely really appreciable song that isn't legendary but that still feels more than enjoyable enough to stand out. It has everything a song of its type would need to be good and it certainly doesn't fail at it, making it still relatively standout and above all just really good. Amazing job with this as always.

Two Octopath MUs and they're both from OT2... so incredibly based
  • Yes another Octopath matchup and against a Fire Emblem protagonist to boot. This track definitely lives up to the musical brilliance that both series have.
  • I always felt Hikari was a better match for Chrom, given their arcs as warrior princes, with Mugen being a good counterpart to Walhart. Why Ike of all people?
