Apple TV 4K (2022) Review - It Changed My Life! | Apple TV Review (3rd Gen) - 5 Months Later

In this review, we discuss how the Apple TV 4K from 2022 has quite literally changed my life in the living room, why I feel like it's the best ROI Apple product out there, why I'm using a pair of HomePods (stereo paired) as my audio source, and lastly, if you should buy a 3rd Generation Apple TV or not. Enjoy!

Yes I know, those HomePod cords are hideous 😅 they'll be hidden soon.
  • You missed the coolest Siri feature: While watching video, press the button and ask “What did they say?”. It rewinds the video 15 seconds, and turns captions on. When the clip is finished, it turns captions back off.

One of the best features of AppleTV is that when traveling, you can carry it and plug it into your hotel television, and feel right at home without having to watch endless commercials and programs that are not videotaped.

I bought the Apple TV 4K (64GB model) a couple months ago, and I'm loving it. I've used Roku and Chromecast before, but the Apple TV just runs a lot smoother. I think it's definitely worth the extra money over the cheaper streaming box options because you really do get the most value from what Apple offers. I also like the added security of Apple's software over some of the competition. My favorite feature has to be the seamless connection of my Airpods Pro when I want to watch something in my apartment without disturbing the neighbors. Thanks for the review Brandon! Glad you seem to be loving it too.
  • The way AirPods seamlessly connect is a main feature for me. Apple Arcade is awesome too. And if you were looking for a great controller, call mom it’s the 8bitdo pro. There is a switch on the back for different systems. So I use the same controller for my Apple TV, nintendo switch, and an android paste, handheld gaming device. And I never have to re-pair it.
  • Been using an AppleTV since the day they first came out with gen1.... upgraded each new model since. The killer feature and USP of the whole thing is the aggregating TV app that keeps track of shows, new episodes, and new seasons across most (NETFLIX SORT YOURSELVES OUT HERE!!!!!) streaming services. It makes it possible to ditch more expensive satellite/cable TV providers and theres no longer a need for a PVR either..... add to that the fact the content syncs across the phone and iPad and its super convenient, Oh, and the lack of Ads littering the interface is another huge bonus although with 16.2 onwards they are uncomfortably creeping towards unwanted content ads that have become a little too intrusive......

We replaced a Roku Ultra with the ATV 4K about 5 months ago and the whole family prefers it. It switches between apps without having to reload the app and it loads channels on YoutubeTV much faster when you change.
  • Great video! Also love my Apple TV. One question though. I used to have my HomePod mini paired as stereo but it wasn’t very good (before the new HomePod was released). So I upgraded to Sonos arc + Sub You say here that the HomePods will replace your sound bar, which sound bar do you use? And do you think it would be better than Sonos ARC/Sub?
  • Have used them for several years, way faster and polished than most smart TVs and works like butter with the Apple ecosystem! Nice video Brandon! Watching this review on the same model 😃👍

Ever since I first got apple TV back in 2018, I've never looked back. I cut my cable and all I do is pay for 4/5 streaming service apps and that combined is $120 less than my cable bill was. Definitely worth it and I agree, I love how smooth it is navigating it without any lag.

Does the box need line of sight for remote use? Or, does it work fine hidden away? Excellent review!
  • @johnnelson2237
I agree with you Brandon the Apple TV is a very underrated awesome product. I have two of the newest models and I update them every time a new model is released. The picture quality is awesome - I have one connected to a 55 inch Panasonic OLED TV. The other one is connected to a 65inch Sky Glass panel. Not sure those are available in the US ? Best John

Brandon, I'm glad you made this video because it reminded me of something I've wanted to mention to you for a long time. I only watch YT videos, including yours, on my Apple TV. I think I have my TV's video settings adjusted optimally, but I wanted to encourage you (when you're demonstrating features and settings on iPhone) to put the phone in dark mode. It's VERY VERY hard to see what you're doing on the TV because the phone's screen looks completely washed out when you use light mode. I hope you'll consider this suggestion. Thanks for all you do!

I recently got the latest two generation versions of the Apple TV 4K. To be honest, besides the physical features, there aren’t too many differences on the software front. There is one huge difference that I like though with the latest Apple TV. The fact that the screen doesn’t go black so the refresh rate actually works. The picture is so rich and with the latest tvOS software, the Apple TV works so well with HomePods and HomePod Minis. I have HomePod Minis and I live in an apart so I am satisfied with the sound and functionality of them along side the HomePods.

Great review Brandon! I like that the iPhone can be used as remote keyboard to enter text. It’s brilliant for copy/pasting passwords rather than the tedious on-screen keyboard!
  • @MABACTS
Agreed! It's been my preferred streaming option since 2018. I love it, and use the original HomePod with it, too. Thinking about upgrading models on all of them soon just for a refresh.
  • I have a 2020 ATV and I'm definitely getting the new one because of this video. I just wonder if it's worth waiting for the next gen?
  • @iankastelic5146
Thanks Brandon! Your videos are always spot on. Appreciate your take… Question. I have no experience with AppleTV but after your video and considering it. I noticed you didn’t have any TV/cable stations on during your review. Does Apple TV connect to regular channels as well? Thanks very much! Ian.
  • Thanks for the great video, mate! Would the synced Homepods work on your TV on other HDMI channels or cable TV like your TV soundbar? I wanted to check as I like the clean setup, but I'm afraid it's just not possible.
  • @KamilKloch
Thanks for the review! Have you tried Google Chromecast with Google TV? Does it allow to cast audio to Airpods?
