Take a bow, Rab Havlin...

King Kenny was the well-supported favourite for the Betway Handicap at Wolverhampton, but not a great sight for his many backers down at the start as the horse misses the break completely under jockey Rab Havlin.

What happened next? A fine ride from Havlin to get his mount up in pretty unlikely circumstances...

Owned and trained by E Dunlop. Been gelded already, so they are just having fun with it till it's time to go jumping. The Wolverhampton Polytrack is a v safe surface with no horse deaths this year, can't say that for many tracks.

Was on him and was shaking my head the full race then I was like hang on we've got a squeak here

If you like these sorts of runs, look up the Breeders Cup Marathon and Brooklyn Handicap wins (circa 2012) of Calidoscopio. That was the case of an old staying stallion (~10 years old) who "had seen it all" and whose tactic was to canter behind the pack all by himself until the last two furlongs. Apart from Winx (mentioned below), look up Zenyatta.

Backed this very same horse the last 4 times its run and it's won 3 times and will probably win again next time out

For all the people who say that they work at a racing barn and the horses love running and they take good care of them and how the whip never touches the horse and how they don't get injured, for all those people who say I have something to say to you. There is no way that horses enjoy this, put yourself in this type of situation: You get born in a stall and that's all you know, people imprint on you so your mom doesn't teach you anything, the humans do, you barely get to bond with her. At the age of 2 you still live your life in a cramped stall, hearing the nervous whinnies of other horses. Almost everyday someone comes to your stall, puts on your halter and shoved chain in your mouth, the chain rubs on your sensitive gums and puts you in tremendous pain but you can't escape it no matter what you do, you try rearing and pulling, all of that reslunts in yanking and getting whipped. You get drug out onto the racetrack all the time, the jockey pulls on your sensitive mouth, driving the chain and bit into your tongue and gums. Then the jockey decides to whip you to get you running, you don't want to run, that's the last thing you want to do, but the jockey keeps pulling your mouth and hitting you with the crop until the training is over. You get a quick rinse and shoved back into your stall and given a flake of alphalfa. The next day is race day blah blah blah your drugged and can't focus on your surroundings. Once again, painful bit and chain, constant whipping, your running with scared horses who just want this over. Your jockey pushes you to your brink. You hear a snap and pain shoots up your leg, you plummet to the ground and smack your head on the ground and slam into the rail. Dirt clouds your vision, your first instinct it to get up, but you can't, you can't because your leg is shattered, you are in so much pain right now you can't move. People gather around you yelling. They drag you in a trailer and send you on your way. You spend your last few moments In a vet clinic dying. After you were euthanized you didn't know that your owner didn't care about you at all and just bought another horse to make money off of, and pretty soon that horse ended up like you, some died on the track, others were euthainsized, some were sent to slaughter, most barely make to the age of 6 or even 8 before they are seriously injured or dead. You think you wanna go through that? No you wouldn't, this is awful and horses aren't animals anymore, no, instead they are machines that make money. People can't keep doing this to horses, or any other animal for that matter, you don't wanna go through this, so what makes you think the horse would want to. I don't even own a horse and even I have enough common since to know this is wrong. Like if you think i'm right.

Rob Havlin ! Look back on his ride TOP BEAK ! Terrible ride ! He again kept his mount at the back until the final bend ! Maybe thinks he`s another Jamie Spencer ! Stewards ! General Public ! Beware of these Bad Jockey`s !!!
  • He just sat on it, hoped they went off at a pace and saved ground. The race practically fell in his lap. Make no mistake, Rab Havlin is a terrible terrible jockey.

They went far too hard up front. Lucky the gaps came, they normally wouldn’t in a field of that size at Wolverhampton
