I show you how to stretch a canvas over a stretcher I made using a pneumatic staple gun. This is 12 ounce raw cotton duck canvas, and it has some nice weight to it so the pneumatic gun from Porter Cable works really well. I cut the canvas to size leaving about 3 - 4 inches on all sides to give you enough to room to stretch and staple the canvas to the stretcher.

  • I can’t believe you got a comment that art is boring, when everything an individual creates with his hands is art. Keep it up Jon.
  • I discovered your channel years ago because I was looking to build panels for my encaustic paintings. I have moved to full woodworking because of your channel. I came here for the art first, and will always love that first.
  • The woodwork is what brought me to your channel but I also enjoy your art videos. I admire your passion for art and think that your pieces always turn out so beautiful because you integrate your woodwork knowledge with your innate art vision. You make pieces of art, not just pieces of furniture. I had given up on woodworking and stuck to nursing, but watching your videos have inspired me to keep trying to make some pieces in my spare time. I even bought enough a table saw after about 1 year of pondering on that. Thanks Jon for all them great videos!
  • Jon, don't listen to the naysayers. Art is not boring and your passion shows that. If people want to see only woodworking, there are other channels they can watch. I am a woodworker that envies your talent as an artist. Keep up the good work.
  • I am an artist and now learning woodworking. So glad you included both in your series. It’s been helpful and appreciated!
  • @Hppyzmbie
I love the art aspect of your channel and I couldn't agree more with your statement about original art. Your channels consistently contain high quality work and interesting topics. I for one enjoy it all.
  • Jon, great closeout in this video addressing the comment made in your previous video, “Art is boring, I’m here for the woodwork.” As a professional artist myself in the medium of watercolor, people are quick to say they’re not an artist. However, woodwork in and of itself is a form, so in masonry. Simply look at the beautiful pattern the bricks hold once completed. Even baking and decorating a cake is artwork. It’s unlimited!Unfortunately folks like the gentleman who made this comment are not aware of their own vital purpose, but seek to know it through anything and everything. Keep providing your incredible art for them! It can certainly give healing! 🙌🏼🎨

Jon - I appreciate the breadth of your interests; woodworking, beekeeping, reclaimed wood tour, fishing, art painting, keep it coming man, All Good! Great to watch as it is headed below zero tonight. cheers...
  • Hi Jon like most of us we were directed to this channel because of your exceptional woodworking,About 18 months ago I watched some of your paint by numbers tutorials and decided to give it a go,After 3 paint by number canvases I'm now doing my own artwork There not overly special but each one is an improvement on the last,I'm a carpenter joiner and know one iv ever worked with was arty if you hadn't inspired me I never would of picked up the brush, and also it's something I can do with my daughter that we both find fulfilling so for that Jon thankyou keep it up
  • Jon , I am an artist ! That is why I came to your site.Plus ,I don't have a lot of wood working tools ,so I love when you show how to acomplish a task with only a few tools. But I just ordered a keg 320 ( for now it was all I could afford in my budget) And I am over the moon ready to start making stretchers for my canvases .
  • Art is boring? That’s rude and unnecessary. That’s what I love about YouTube, you have a variety of woodworkers producing different things. Your videos have inspired me to do art with my kids and have also helped me improve my woodworking skills.
  • I originally tuned in for your woodworking projects and have come to appreciate the art aspect. I recently saw the same art canvas technique used for a screen door application with excellent results. I learn so much more so please continue including the art side.
  • I came to your channel as a wood worker. I watched your video out of curiosity and then I recently discovered my daughter wants to paint so I plan on building her a few frames. Thanks for sharing I never thought I'd need to build canvas frames..
  • Keep mixing it up. Your versatility is just as inspiring as the high quality items you produce! Two thumbs up.
  • I like the variety of the videos. Your stuff is more about building things rather than just "wood working". Keep up the awesome work Jon.
  • Jon, Some of us are here with an open mind looking forward to whatever you feel led to film for us. It is obvious your talent and abilities are limitless and I thank you for sharing them with your viewers.
  • Just came upon this video trying to learn about staplers got a lot more, thank you for taking the time and effort to teach and inspire others! I wish art was boring I'd be able to sleep better at night, again; Thank's!
  • The artistic nature of your life, work, and youtube content is what sets you apart from the rest. You make great art videos. Keep up the inspirational work.
