You know the movies marketing is bad when you have to actually QUESTION if the movie was sabotaged
  • @katyungodly
The Treasure Planet story is still heartbreaking to this day, they did that film so dirty.
  • Technically the last Disney movie to have a true sentient villain was was Moana with Krakatoa but even then we don’t see him until a really good way into the movie.
  • As a parent a lot of folks overestimate kids Literally just “some people like people of the same gender/sex and fall in love” is all my not even 7yo needed
  • Disney: "We don't make sci-fi, adventure-themed movies because nobody watches them." Also Disney: Purposely reduces amount of promotions Next thing you know, Disney will stop making these kinds of movies all-together just because of their own choices. 😔
  • Not only Disney didn't advertise the film properly, they released it during the FIFA World Cup and in most countries where football soccer is popular most people are going to watch the matches instead of going to the movies. It feels like they wanted Strange World to fail on purpose One thing I noticed is that the characters in the Neutral Spanish dub are voiced by professional dub voice actors, there're no celebrities voicing characters like in previous Disney dubs (except Frozen), this is actually great but it makes me wonder if Disney didn't even consider this movie important enough to hire some celebrities. Though I prefer animated films dubs to be done by professional voice actors so this was a good decision
  • I can safely say, even before I start watching this video, that yes. Disney sabotaged this movie by underadvertising it. When Disney decides to advertise anything here in Brazil, they scatter it everywhere, and very often, when there's still at least 1 year until its release. I haven't seen a single ad about Strange World until a week prior, and the most I've seen as ads was one radio announcement and very, VERY few publicity clocks (they're these public digital clocks scattered around the city with a poster on top of it, they're very common around here.). Bonus: I live in frigging SÃO PAULO, the biggest METROPOLIS of the ENTIRE COUNTRY, ammounting to 49 million inhabitants and harboring the biggest PRIDE PARADE OF THE WORLD. They. Did. This. Movie. Dirty! Oh, and let's not forget Disney does have a history with sabotaging or trying to dissociate from works they feel are going to anger the conservative masses (and by 'anger' I mean 'lose money from'). They did this with Treasure Planet, and before that, they did it with... guess... Nightmare Before Christmas. Touchstone Pictures was a subsidirary of Disney. They didn't want their name attached to it cuz they were sure there would be backlash from the more zealous side of the audience if they knew it was a Disney-endorsed product.

When Disney releases so many flops, people tend to tune out your products. Lightyear, instead of basing it off the fun and campy Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series, decided to base it off Interstellar and it was boring. Wreck It Ralph had potential to parody video games like Toy Story did with toys, but turned into a weird corpo circle jerk of product placement. It was a Disney version of the emoji movie.

I'm glad you brought up the problem with lack of villains in recent Disney animated films. It really does seem like Disney is too afraid to make new villains for some reason and that is such a shame because they have made such fantastic villains in the past such as Hades, Scar, Jafar, Ursula, Maleficent etc. I recently watched Wreck-It Ralph for the first time and I thought it had a pretty good Villain.
  • I hate how Disney said "It's sabotagin' time!" and sabotaged all over the Strange World. Truly one of the corporations of all time.
  • Man the owl house and amphibia were some of the best shows I've seen in years, pity Disney had to maim it, lumnity is such a comfort ship, just an adorable wholesome couple, one that feels actually genuine, because it's not forced for the whole "I'm gay" personality character... Its crushing to see this happen to some of the few good shows... And inside job got cancelled after already getting a new season greenlight.
  • Love how a kids movies can show a man and a woman kiss with no issues yet people flip out when it's even vaguely implied that a character is attracted to the same sex.
  • Disney on social media: We love you homosexuals Disney any other time: Get these fruits outa here.

I think I have to agree about the generational trauma trope starting to get old... It's a great concept and wasn't really done well for a while, but now it's been done repeatedly in just a few short years. I also 100% agree about the need to bring back true villains. Overly Sarcastic Productions here on youtube did a great piece about how not every villain needs to be relatable, or to have a sympathetic backstory/motivation (look up OSP Trope Talk: Pure Evil). True evil villains are fun, charismatic, memorable, and can be great for the story.
  • For me the main reason why alot of people are put off by the idea of gay characters ia due to how the media basically butchered their first attempts. At the start their entire character just revolved around them being gay, in others the media, movie or series, basically said that if you didnt like the character then there was something wrong with you. Not only for gays or lesbians but for women as well. Constantly not only dropping but basically throwing the ball down and just blaming the audience when nobody liked it. Because of this the audience have grown to learn that the moment a gay, woman, or black character is invovled in the story then its better to just ignore it rather than be mocked again. So when someone competent actually makes a proper character with these traits people are super skeptical and still have that sour taste on their mouths. They are not able to accept that a good character was finally made. This is the result of years of incompetent, agenda pushing writing. They took away the chance for actual competent writers who wanted to tell a good story to tell their story to the world. I watched the movie and for me it was really good, sure not perfect but good still.
  • @DazzlingNishi
the thing that annoys me most with the generational trauma movies is that the traumatized kids always make up with their parents in the end. make the parents really villains for once! let the kid not forgive the parent and not be shamed for it!
  • "Come on Disney, Kingdom Hearts needs bosses!" Hell yeah saber bringing up real problems in life.
  • @DutchMilkMaid
The character designs seem too clash for me. The women look like your basic disney Frozen/Encanto style, while the men look like they could have come from the Hotel Transylvania cast. And the colors of the world, very Croods like. It's a bit of everything!
  • @SunyCartoons
I agree with the thing about a lack of Disney Villains. It seems like a lot of animated movies and shows are backing away from straight up villains. I wonder if it's related to the weird idea people have developed that liking villains automatically means you agree with their actions.
