A young man has undergone emergency surgery after a shark at North Shore Beach near Port Macquarie mauled him. Members of the public rushed to help the 23-year-old surfer and applied makeshift tourniquets to his leg while they waited for paramedics.     Sounds like he manned up big time and faced the beast head on. Luckily having the board sandwiched in the bite, makes the world of difference to survival. The bite strength is considerably hampered by the foam and fiberglass, so he may not lose a limb.
