Is the 2021 Apple TV 4K a good gaming console? It supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and is the perfect device for me pairing it with the Sony HT-A7000 sound bar!

I have had an apple arcade sub and I've been pretty impressed with the gaming offering and I have an older iPad mini. Pairing a controller is super easy. Definitely gives smaller guys a run for their money especially how well the games play. Fantasian is really impressive for a "mobile" game.

Congrats! I've owned 2 Apple TV 4K boxes over the years, and they worked great. That said, they didn't have ALL the apps I wanted. In comparison, I've had 5 Nvidia Shield Pros (some didn't work... don't ask), and that's the streaming box I've finally settled on... it's got a lot more flexibility and fantastic audio and video quality. Oh, and we have some Rokus and a Fire for convenience. They're crap, lol.
  • Apple TV is pretty awesome. I got into one when I had an older HDTV that wasn’t a Smart TV and it quickly became my favorite device for streaming as well.

I’ve had a few gens of Apple TV and to have really taken to it. Granted, it can motivate you to get stuck into the whole Apple ecosystem (phone, Mac, watch, clothes, toothbrush lol) but even as a stand-alone streaming device it’s pretty cool. I pay for AppleOne which includes arcade but haven’t used it much; now I’m aware of the castlevania game perhaps I’ll give it another shot. Cheers!

Now, I feel like getting one of these! LOL Great review! Lots of helpful info! Thanks!

Looks pretty good, I'd be interested to see how it compares (performance wise) to an Nvidia Shield. Shield is quite old now, we use ours for emulation as well as the standard TV apps. Handles everything up to and including Gamecube very well. And the controllers are pretty nice.
  • I had the HD model once. I got it as a bonus for buying a slightly used (I mean only 4 hours used) Epson EF-11 Laser Projector. I dabbled with it for awhile but, I did not care for what it had to offer so I thought maybe I'll hack it to let me side load apps, but it became too much of a pain in the rear to deal with so I sold it for $100 (so that made the projector only cost $550). I'm much more happy using either my PC or Switch on it to be honest.

Apple Arcade is pretty legit Fantasian is a standout game for sure. There are a lot of other goodies on there.
  • @jenniferw8963
The Apple Arcade game Fantasian is an exclusive JRPG game for apple devices. Plays very well on the new Apple TV. It's worth buying an Apple TV just for that game :) That's why I bought it anyways to replace my Roku.
  • @JeremyPeeples
The Apple TV is a low-key great gaming device - and it's my first Apple device too.
  • @Metal2Hedgehog
Only reason I know of Apple Arcade is because it got the sequel to Chu Chu Rocket, not counting the gba version. A chu chu rocket sequel on apple arcade. It's crazy. This was actually pretty informative. I might consider picking one up if my fire stick ever goes down the crap.
  • @DieselJT
I have considered picking this up just so I can play the exclusive Taiko No Tatsujin tap beat game. Im a huge Taiko fan and it kills me that Apple has an exclusive Taiko game I do not have access to. That Castlevania game looks cool af too!
  • @1ChilledDude
Apple TVs have always been game-capable. With the right games and the right controller you can get a reasonably good experience. But you wouldn't go out of your way to buy it for its gaming prowess, it's the side benefit rather than the core function. That said, there are some exclusives on ARCADE.
  • @jackdavis6603
Can you do a video on Provenance on the AppleTV? It will require you to have a developer account but it's a really nice looking raspberry pi-like emulator you can load onto it.
  • @joegoesretro
I use an iPad Pro as my everyday computer for internet surfing and watching YouTube and crap like that. While I have Apple Arcade, and play a few games on it here and there, and I have a couple dozen other games purchased and installed, it wouldn’t be my first choice for something to game with. That said, it paired seamlessly with my XBox One controller and I’ve probably used it more with the iPad Pro than my XBox One over the past couple years.
  • @turpac1
yeah man here early good stuff bro

I use Arch Linux on my pc. But, two years ago I switched from Android to iPhone. The current iPhone is iPhone 13, yet iPhone 6s is still supported by Apple with the latest iOS. This is why I switched, it's always a pain to have the latest version of Android on any given device.
  • @zairman
Never liked Apple products myself. I like the customization of the Nvidia Shield much better, and runs games great.
