NEW video on Moonlight + Playnight game streaming setup (includes Xbox PC Game Pass games)!!
   • How to stream ALL of your PC games in...

Original description:
This is the condensed story of how I found my ULTIMATE couch gaming setup. I wanted to be able to play all of my PC and retro games in the living room, with one controller- just pick up and play where you left off- simple right?

Well, the reason I made this video in a sort of story-time fashion instead of telling you straight on what setup I ended up with was because I feel strongly that there is a lot of information here that can be useful to a lot of people, and it's much more useful when presented in the context of all the other things I tried in order to create my perfect living room gaming setup.

If you still feel like you need to skip ahead, the TLDR; starts at about @6:59.

This video assumes you already have some working knowledge of PC gaming, retro emulation, and game streaming, etc- so if you have any questions please let me know in the comments and I'll try to provide learning resources or make new videos on those topics.

Below are links to everything you need if you wanted to create the same or similar setup.

Thank you!!

Stuff like this makes me so happy, i love when tech becomes so convenient that you barely need to think about it!
  • Dude it takes half the video for you to tell you're audience you are using an apple tv. That is too much rambling tell people what you are going to tell them and the give them the details.

As someone who has tested this exact setup, I can indeed give this my blessing! It works great and is so convenient, it's important to get out of the office and enjoy the wonders of couch gaming!

Little did i know that my xbox controller can be connected via two devices!Thank you for pointing that out which makes my apple tv gaming experience so much smoother ❤
  • @IAmNeomic
Just a heads up, the Xbox Series S and X have some sort of "developer mode" you can enable very easily (made so that people can easily develop their own games and not need a dev kit), and people are already creating full-blown RetroPie setups that you can launch right on your XSX.

I have been looking for an option to get rid of my living room pc, and I'll be damned if there isn't a 4k Apple TV sitting RIGHT THERE. Going to try this out. What an amazing video!!!

2:00 Thank you for expressing that, such a necessary mindset to have when doing stuff like this.

Great video! What video resolution does the Steam Link app output at? I currently use the Steam Link box and it can only go up to 1080p, though it runs great with virtually no input lag with my Bluetooth 8BitDo controller. I have a 2022 Philips OLED TV running Android TV and the Steam Link app is much laggier and not really usable, which surprises me.
  • @Monzzhu
Seems like a pretty solid option for my use case which is only playing games from my Steam library, will definitely try it.
  • @ZZFilm
Wow! Great video. Really well laid out. Loved the narrative flow. Thanks so much for the effort. Liked and subbed.

Wow amazing video and exactly what I was looking for, thank you! Question, have you had any issues with login to games through Steam Big Picture, ie Warframe will not login through Big Picture? Also the controller settings seem to get a little off, I get too fast up and down movement and adjusting the settings do nothing for it? Once again this is with Warframe, I am able to Login through PC in regular steam mode then connect to Steam Link and play, but this defeats the purpose of your Ultimate Set Up, any help would be greatly appreciated!
  • @TastyBaconTreat
Do you connect the blue tooth controller to the Apple TV or to your desktop to play the game? How does the button mapping work? Thanks for the help!
  • @VacationRaphael
I'm looking into a similar setup, having never done anything like this. Can you go beyond 60hz on this? as many FPS on the TV as your PC can output? Thanks for the video :)

I had a laptop that crapped out on me after two years. Buying a replacement when the components are tied to an expensive motherboard was a no-go for me. That meant I had to go with a tower again so that a dead motherboard doesn't take everything with it. This meant that I had no laptop to use over my friend's place anymore. Using this as a guide with the moonlight app on my phone saved me the trouble of lacking portability, so thanks. Also, Ryujinx will knife fight you behind an Arby's before it remembers a bluetooth controller.

thank you :) i had went down this path before, i even did the same thing when i looked at my apple tv, but, i use launchbox to organize all my emulation stuff, when playing gamecube over steamlink, then opening bigbox, then launching dolphin... as you said i think the controls got confused. lmfao. glad to revisit the idea with steam rom manager in mind. WAIT WHAT?! you can have 2 connections on series controllers?!?!? smh as if. you ended up solving pretty much all my problems <3
