When you look deeper into this short, it can be interpreted as an allegory for alcohol. In fact, when you replace the coffee cup with alcohol, the story is about a washed up woman who is trying to drink her broken marriage away. In all of her memories, everything that is important to her is drawn in white (the cat, the medical vent (representing her excitement for becoming a mother), the table cloth on their date, her wedding dress, the baby's coffin, the baby carrier and the ring holder), and she steps on most of these items like garbage. The events of the memories change through every run (in the scene where she is crying over her dead (or crippled) son, first time she is being comforted by her husband, second time she and the husband are distant, third time she is all alone), representing her refusal to accept how the course of events really played out, to the point where she can't even remember how it happened anymore. The one memory that her is still vulnerable to is the marriage proposal because it remind her of where everything began and how happy she was at the time to begin her new life in marriage. I might be looking too deeply into this, but this entire short seems to be up for interpretation.

Didn't notice that she was going through her own past until the third cycle. Definitely adds another layer of depth to her obsessive coffee drinking!

    1. Proposal / Coffee shop 2. Wedding / Church 3. Birth / Hospital 4. Family / Park 5. Illness / Hospital 6. Funeral / Cemetery 7. Breakup / Restaurant 8. Alone / Apartment Her memories are slowly transitioning from an idealized version to the reality which actually happened. Also as she runs she is becoming more and more exhausted.

How many of you noticed that She was pregnant when he proposed. Suzanne(Blender Monkey) in the skating area. The baby was a GIRL. Each time she threw that cat number of coffee is increasing. Each time in the cemetery crying becomes intense. She was always a playful and coffee addict But what happened in the park changed everything and she couldn't get the child back. The car accident happened in the park was the reason for the child's hospitalisation. In the hospital monitor beeps differently indicating child's health They don't fight in a fancy roof top restaurant its the hospital cafeteria. When the baby dies he goes off without supporting her(Because she was the reason) If you cut each run in each location the story is linear. Now alone in the apartment From 11am to 6pm (apartment clock) she keep drinking coffee and thinks over and over about what happened like a punishment. She want to stop it wr all started but couldn't. She doesn't like coffee anymore, She doesn't even have a pet to give her hope, She is not playful anymore the skateboard lies in a corner.

This all started with a cube in the middle and no background just plain black

This is probably going to get stolen. Don't be surprised if you see this as a fake mobile game ad.

something i noticed (based on my own observations and others) is that every run shows more truth about the locations house- 1st run: just the coffee in her hand 2nd run: some coffee 3rd run: a lot of coffee she doesnt want to show the true length of her addiction hospital- 1st run: shes comforted by her husband 2nd run: her husband is distant 3rd run: her husband is absent she wishes that he wouldve been there restaurant- 1st run: shes being yelled at by her husband 2nd run: she and her husband are yelling at each other 3rd run: shes yelling at her husband she wants to be the victim, not the assailant wedding- 1st run: just some relatives 2nd run: some more relatives 3rd run: many relatives she doesnt want to have more people to disappoint with her broken marriage funeral- 1st run: minimal crying 2nd run: more crying 3rd run: despair she wants to hide her feelings park- 1st run: she was kissing her husband 2nd run: she was talking to her husband 3rd run: she was doing tricks on the skateboard she doesnt want to think that she was responsible for not looking after the child, causing them to roll off and die coffee shop- 1st run: she just watches 2nd run: she reaches a bit 3rd run: she reaches she wants to have what she used to have and is trying to hide that so yeah, thats my overly complex analysis of a blender short

Wow. At first I thought it was just a meaningless loop, with cool visuals and fun animations. Only realized at the last scene that something else was there as she was reaching out to the couple. Had to rewatch and pause a few times, to really appreciate the story. It is hard to tie the narrative to a cohesive story, but since it involves coffee, my interpretation is that we run through life often energized by various stimulants and frequently forget to stop and enjoy the moment. Well done Blender, I'm becoming a fan!

    1. Coffee Shop Proposal 2. Marriage 3. Delivery 4. Child in Park in a Stroller 5. Child in the Incubator? 6. Funeral 7. Fight at Restaurant 8. Alone at home with the Cat. Each time she jumps she thinks about how things could have gone differently. The restaurant, 1st jump he's angry, 2nd jump both angry, 3rd jump shes angry. Same with the Stroller, each time the baby's sound changes. Just alone at home awake with caffeine, thinking about how things could have gone differently

Watching this movie requires you to pay close attention to the details. I watched it five times and I noticed there are small differences in each loop. The proposal events are same in each loop but.. 1. When the baby is in critical condition, In first loop, her BF is pampering her, In the second loop he is just sitting by her side not looking at the baby, And In the last loop he is not there and She(Protagonist) is crying alone. 2. In the church, There are 7, 10, and 12 people respectively in 1st, 2nd and 3rd series of events (loops). 3. In 1st loop only her BF is hitting the table. In the 2nd loop both are hitting the table. And in the 3rd loop only the girl is hitting the table. 4. The time in the wall clock is different each she throws the cat, which are 10:05, 12:30 and 2:30. Which means she remembering the past events again and again at different times in the dark room. 5. At the funeral, The first time the girl has an umbrella, The second time she does not have umbrella and the third time She is on her knees. 7. They are standing in different positions next to baby stroller. They are kissing each other in the 1st loop, The girl is drinking coffee in the 2nd and She is flipping the skateboard in the final loop. 8. At the coffee shop, the barista is in slightly different positions. He is at the cash counter in the first loop, He is making/drinking coffee in the second and looking for something in the lower cupboard. 9. If you notice carefully, She is already pregnant at the time of proposal.(Someone else's comment gave me this idea) The small differences in each series of events define either the different scenarios after a marriage proposal OR It is her inability to remember the past events correctly which causes the differences in each loop. These small details make every series of events a little bit different but also they deepen the meaning of this movie which is to show the depressing drastic events of the protagonist's life in a slightly different manner. This movie seems even more real and deeper and depressing as you watch it again and again. Well, this is my theory. The makers has done some great work in showing us the pain the main character is going through.

Me: "Ok, so they deleted the default cube-" Kids:"What does this have to do with this tragic movie?" Me:"WE GET THERE WHEN WE GET THERE!"
  • @samtunji
Such a deep meaning. Is that how she's been coping with tragedy. I feel her pain.
  • @clockpenalty
I think she made a mistake with her skateboard and her baby died as a result. It drove a wedge between her and her husband as he wasn't present when the child was pronounced dead. Each loop shows her memories slowly changing from an idealised revision to slowly coming to terms with the truth of what happened. That's why in the final revision, she's getting on the skateboard in the park (instead of hugging her husband in round one) she's alone with the dying baby, she's on the ground with grief at the funeral, and she alone is losing her temper with her husband at the breakup scene.
  • @djjoeray
Best Blender movie yet - at least from a storytelling perspective, bravo
  • @malypavel25
I like how the two latest Blender open films (this and Sprite Fight) actually have a great potential in making fans outside the blender community!
  • @NBP722
Maybe she should switch over to some tea instead lol.
  • @SpLineFx
It deserves to be nominated for the Best Animated Short Film. Thank you Blender Animation Studio

After a lot of time, I finally understand what's going on here. At first, I thought she was just coffeeing through madness but she was actually running through all of her past memories including her breakdown. I know this is kinda obvious but it's amazing how much effort they put in this. and HOLY COW THIS IS BRUTAL.
