Spring is the story of a shepherd girl and her dog, who face ancient spirits in order to continue the cycle of life. This poetic and visually stunning short film was written and directed by Andy Goralczyk, inspired by his childhood in the mountains of Germany.

The Spring team used the development version of Blender 2.80 for the entire production, before the software was in official Beta even. As for all of Blender’s Open Movies, the entire production process and all its source files are being shared on the Blender Studio website.

Ok, this is awesome, but nobody is talking about the magnificent human expressions, I mean, how an inert cube can transform into the warmest human expressions on a girl's face. This is incredible.

Re-watching this after 2 years, and it's still gorgeous.
  • The fact that blender made a FREE software for this level of animation just makes my level of respect for the people that work on it go WAY UP.

Didn't knew one cube could turn into a whole dreamworks animation.
  • @Seventh721
Just imagine, they could made an entire movie like this, its incredible.
  • Ugh. Animation is so hard. People who do this for a living deserve more credit and respect.
  • Blender is free... It doesnt mean that it has no quality... This movie proves it... I'm proud to be a blender user

You can really start to appreciate stuff like this after struggling to make it through the donut tutorial.
  • I see so many people talking about the animation, but no one is talking about the story, I mean, it's so heart warming and also leaves loads of room for your own imagination.

To think this was made in Blender 2.8, before Geometry Nodes, blows my mind. This short film really is a work of art. But imagine what you could do in later versions. This is simply amazing.
  • everybody is talking about the animation, but nobody is talking about th incredible audio in the video

I know everybody is praising the animation and lighting but the music and sound design is also next level.

I respect blender so much. Its an amazing software and its 100% free while adobe products are so expensive i as a student in a poor country cannot afford it. Blender makes so many dreams possible, bless people who decided to not focus on profits but on the users. We love you!

Heavens... How do they manage to give the models so much life? And those realistic environments and textures! The sensations of weight and impacts!

I used to criticize when I was a kid over like... Why the animation is bad or why it's not like this or that... But after learning about what goes into the animation and production... Mad respect for the creaters behind it.... And also "Spring" Is awesome.. Just love the details that is put into this and each of these projects.
