Conflict of Nations sponsoring every review of this movie is the greatest marketing play ever

The ad placement is diabolical lol

Jesse Plemons Fun Fact: He was a last minute replacement for this film. Nobody wanted this part really, and the guy who was gonna play the role dropped out sick. Kirsten told Alex hey, Jesse's here with our kids, soooo? 😁 And Jesse went to local thrift stores and grabbed a bunch of sunglasses and stuff for Alex to choose from when he did the lines. Alex was sold and Jesse was most definitely probably better than whoever called in sick. Edit: For clarity, Jesse is married to Kirsten in case you didn't know.
  • The sound production and design was immaculate, this was the most REAL sounding gunfire I've heard in a movie, souds like you're at the actual range
  • The most unrealistic part about this is the fact that the president isn't 102 years old but instead closer to an actual average American.
  • A modern Civil War movie, released in an election year. Couldn’t get more opportune timing than that.

One thing that hit me hard about this movie was the sound design. I’ve never heard gunfire in a movie sound like it’s supposed to until this movie. Every shot has reverb and perfect echo for its environment. The impact of the rounds holds energy throughout. It took me to a place in my head that I haven’t seen since I was in the military.
  • Just realized I’ve been watching you for over 10 years. Glad I can count on you on everything I want to see. My favorite movie critic of all time.

Jesse Plemons is so good at playing asshole characters lol
  • "Walking Dead with no Zombies" - perfect description, just mass chaos ensuing. Another banger!
  • by far the best movie reviewer online....entertainment about entertainment or what hollywood calls entertainment in the 2020's....Great Video!

The beautiful thing about thriller movies is the sense of dread of the unknown. Films like Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado do an excellent job at building up the tension and keeping the audience guessing with anxiety for what comes next. I’ve only watched one of Alex Garland’s films, annihilation, and I loved it! I can’t wait to watch Civil War, and I hope it does give me the suspense Sicario did.
  • The most unrealistic part is that, if it were a modern civil war, Sydney Sweeney would be plastered on the nose of every bomber like the cartoon chicks in WW2

That might be the funniest sponsor ad ever on this channel.

“Are they simply profiting off of a divided Nation’s pending conflict? Say it ain’t so…” 2 seconds later: “BUT FIRST I WANNA THANK THE SPONSOR OF THIS VIDEO… ‘CONFLICT OF NATIONS WWIII’! 💀💀💀

I just came out of the theater kind of underwhelmed. Alex Garland's other films like Annhiliation and Ex Machina left me feeling something lurking within my core. This was a capably made, audiovisually realistic foray into the lives of a closely knit group of war journalists at various stages in their career. Beyond that, there's not much plot and not much is explained in terms of how we got to this point and what the rules are. There are about 3 harrowing scenes. The rest is quite tame. More Sony Columbia (Sony was Lee's camera, an alpha) than A24 to me.

Releasing this movie on April 12th. The day the American Civil War started in 1861. Nice touch.
  • @erikporter
The ending seemed fine to me. About like how most wars end (or stop for a while until they start up again). Great review as always. Agreed with everything else.
