Once again, various gun control groups are pushing for a national Assault Weapon Ban that specifically targets AR-15s. Does the AR-15 deserve all this hate? Does the argument for restricting "military-style rifle" ownership hold up? Isaac Botkin walks through the history of every step of small arms weapon development to see if there is a case for this.

  • You had me until you said you don’t need a grenade launcher for home defense
  • @Nameless_rat
My grandma who actually owns an M1 handed down from her dad can’t use it for home defense, and it actually hurts her to shoot. she picked up my AR and was able to hit 28 out of 30 shots at 100 yards having never shot one before and that’s what scares the politicians 😂
  • Just for the record: EVERY SINGLE WEAPON Platform was state of the art Battlefield small arms at some point in history. Bolt action, pump shotgun, lever gun... Slippery slope

The recoil factor is significant. Deal breaker significant. My Mauser military gun from a century ago fires a 30.06 cartridge like my Remington deer hunting rifle. Both hit your shoulder like a sledge hammer. Just brutal to shoot. My AR-15 style rifle firing .223/.556 has almost no recoil. There is no pain. You can practice and become familiar and competent with the gun without being afraid of it. I assure you my wife, sister, or mother would never fire a 30.06 a second time. Yes, the AR platform is far superior in every way for home defense than anything that has come before it.

Americans can have dozens of AR15’s yet in my own country I can’t even buy and shoot one single shot rifle :/ Don’t ever lose your freedoms.

If politicians won't give up their firearms for us, why should we give up our firearms for them? Don't ever let them take away your most efficient way of defending yourself.

I was a Marine in Vietnam(0311) when they gave us the M16 in April of 67. We looked at these rifles and thought you got to be kidding. We were given 2 boxes of ammo and told us to go out and get your battle dope. Three weeks later were were fighting NVA on hill 861. Many Marines lost their lives because of weapon malfunction and jamming. Later on we adopted to these new weapons and actually found them better than the heavier m14. Always Semper Fidelis!!!
  • I will never forget that scene of Winters flinching at every shot.

When I showed my Father my first AR (back in the 80s) He asked my why I wanted it. I told him "The police have them, the government has them, the bad guys have them. I want one too" He just nodded and said he couldn't argue with that. He was not a gun person.

“Here at Trex Arms we focus on small arms.” Underrated joke.

I’m very impressed. Thank you for going so far back in history

Great video - an editing note for you. On the last few cutaways to the camera on your right side, both audio streams are live, resulting in an echo. If you mute the audio from the right side camera in your video edit, (or set that camera to not record audio) that will go away. Very informative video though.

Just the fact they tell you, “you don’t need an AR-15” means you sure as hell need a AR-15

This was a very good put together episode. Keep up the hard work. You just got a new subscriber.

I'm surprised he missed the Kentucky long rifle in his analysis of the revolutionary war. The next great innovation wasn't the percussion cap, it was barrel rifling, which was supposedly discovered by accident when a barrel 'defect' was found to make the rifle more accurate by adding spin to the projectile. The British military was using smooth bore 'Brown Bess' muskets at the time as he correctly states in the video, so this is yet another example of civilian weapons being better than what militaries were using.
  • @thomas_jay
Pardon me but ... There are probably more AR-15 type rifles in the civilian society than there are ARs in the US military which means that the military is actually using a civilian rifle and not the other way around.

Im 15 and live in NZ. We are now very limited on the guns we can own. I would like to move to the USA one day.
