The motivation for this video came from the many times I get asked by my patients this question about Basmati Rice vs Brown Rice, which made me realised that many people do not realise that Basmati Rice can be White Rice, Red Rice, Brown Rice, whilst at the same time, Brown Rice can come from Basmati Rice, Jasmine Rice, other types of rice. If you have found this video, I am delighted that my effort in making this video has not gone to waste, but if I have failed to achieve the goal of clearing this up this confusion or worse, even added to the confusion, then my bad! I shall reflect on how I could have done this video better and improve myself for future videos. Ever since I posted this video a few months ago, it has received many comments from viewers, some positive and also many negative and even angry comments. I want to thank everyone who made the effort to leave comments, regardless of whether they were positive or negative. I shall take encouragement from the positive encouraging comments but at the same time, even though I may not have or be replying to all comments, I will also not ignore or disregard the negative comments/feedback but to take such negative feedback seriously and learn from them, then use them as motivation for me to try harder to improve and make better videos moving forward. THANK YOU ALL! Thanks all for dropping by my channel. Best Regards Doc

In India, traditionally the best rice is supposed to be parboiled brown Basmathi rice. And it has a GI of something like 30s which is excellent for any rice. Please doctor, if you can gather data on it, do a video after your investigation. Thanks.

I had went to Nepal from Tibet a decade more ago! I had no appetite for food in Tibet although feeling hungry. Almost 20 days! But when I reached Nepal through winding slopes. My first meal with Brasmathi rice was so inviting that i gained appetite instantly! It was so herbal enriched with the rice and when i am back to Malaysia i could not find any eateries that can match the flavours i had in Nepal! Simply splendid!

wow I am from India but even I was unaware Basmati came in Brown and Red variety
  • @thebearsden1701
Thanks for clearing that up...refined white rice is higher on the glycemic scale for diabetics ,at least thatz what I got from your vid...thanks ..brown rice has the most nutrients still intact..
  • @snehmichael
Thanks for clarifying the difference between the colours of Basmati Rice. I thought it was healthier than other types of rice but now it’s clear that it is the Brown and Red Basmati rice that are healthier than the popular white one.

Dr Chan, I'm 56 yrs old, a GP in UK, of Indian origin and lived in one of the major Basmati rice producing states for 23 years. I was ignorant of the this knowlege till I saw your video. I cannot thank you enough. Would you mind if I showed this to the large population of Bangladeshi and Pakistani patients we have in our practice? We are a practice with the largest percentage of above ethinicity patients in our surgery and the majority of our patients are from Bangladeshi surgery. Once again thank you for your highly educating video. BTW I am type 2 diabetic, medicine controlled and am looking to wrestle my diabetes by improving my diet.
