1/3 existing Volkswagen Nardo's hit the streets yesterday in Düsseldorf until it was loaded on a truck.
Five Nardo's were produced back in 2001 - according to the driver, three are still existing. A yellow one, a black and this red one.
Had the chance to see the black one back in 2009 - www.flickr.com/photos/30217550@N08/5799793140/in/p…

Some details about the one shown in the video:
- engine was rated at producing 441 kilowatts (600 PS; 591 bhp)
- 621 newton metres (458 ft·lbf)
- 0-100 km/h (0-62.1 mph) took about 3.5 seconds
- top speed of 357 kilometres per hour (221.8 mph)
- weighing just 1,200 kilograms (2,646 lb)

It was one of the fastest sports car concepts in the world, created by Charlie Adair.
Volkswagen wanted to show what was technical possible back in 2001 - this will always be a concept car ; Volkswagen never wanted to start a production.

  • When i was a kid i had a this car as a toy. I loved it so much!

I wish Volkswagen put the Nardo into production. Even if it were in limited numbers. It would've really helped the Volkswagen image because the average person has no idea that Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley and most of all, Bugatti are all owned and built by Volkswagen.

This is was the true predecessor to the Veyron. After buying Bugatti in '98, VW studied Bugatti's massive engines, and then figured out how to make their own supercar. The Nardo W12. But of course no one would ever take VW seriously if they were to truly pursue the lofty goals of supercar royalty. So make a kick ass supercar, but give a name that everyone knows. Bugatti Veyron.

I adore this car, it really has a special place in my heart
  • What a beautiful, unique & brutal machine, a true jewel of the automotive history, its a shame that only one or two (I don´t remember) Volkswagens Nardos were made :(

guy driving has no concept of throttle or clutch control....
  • @xDPx-zh7vr
I can just smell the clutch as this guy maneuvers the Nardo around. Seems like a very fussy car at low RPMs but probably a monster at speed.

Prettiest car to ever wear th VW badge. Very unique sounding engine, can't figure out if I like the sound or not. Epic car though. They should've produced it.

man the nardo looks soooo good ! i mean we are talking about a car that was mentioned between 1997-2002 i think thats pretty cool. I kinda remindes me of the saleen s7
  • @ellieisfit15
That can do 221mph... simply amazing they need to make it..
  • @reverze5521
It kind of looks like they went.. "Och scheisse, the car is too long, we have to shorten it." Then just cut off a piece of the rear and filled the holes with some lights and exhausts.
