Hundreds of Chinese citizens arrive in Jacumba, California every day, having crossed the Wall that’s meant to fence the US off from Mexico. Their sudden arrival has caught Border Patrol and local residents by surprise. Chaos and tensions ensue.

Meanwhile, CNA correspondent Wei Du arrives in Ecuador, where the Chinese migrants start their long trek to America. She speaks to a group about why they chose to leave China, and travels with them from Ecuador to Colombia to get a first-hand experience of the migrant trail.

You know why there are some chinese people struggling so hard to made their way to the US? Because there are so many chinese people doing immigration agencies in the US. They are using the social medias to propaganda how easy to get a job in the US and how well paid salary of the job in US. But honestly, In fact, the majority of undocumented immigrants in the United States face significant challenges in terms of living standards, economic opportunities, and access to social services due to their lack of legal status.

Great reporting. You really deserve an award for your honest reporting... I'm American and worked in Venezuela many years and saw first hand many of the same things you've reported. It is very sad so many people risk their lives just for a few freedoms many of us take for granted...

I married a Asian ,we paid attorney fees and UCIS fees + took years of waiting 7+ as a US citizen I am not OK with an illegal invasion.

If US citizens tried to enter China illegally, the reception would be very different. China has real borders.

Man I'm 28 mins in and my jaw is just dropped by this dad whos taking his family through some of the most treacherous jungle on planet earth, and he just does not seem to understand the difficulty that lies ahead of him. They're buying chocolate. No canned food, no stove, but chocolate. They seem like absolutely wonderful people, very happy family, but I can already tell its gonna be one hell of a hard journey for them. I wish these people the best.

Truly jaw dropping and amongst the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen other coverage of this dangerous route but this version stood out for the human aspect. The connection between reporter and subject. That’s what matters most.

Thanks Wei Du, and the whole team for covering this. Never thought there are so many people that are willing to go through all these difficulties to reach their American dream. Whatever reasons they have for leaving their own country, I wish them all the very best. May God make their future path easier. God bless them and God bless America too. All the best CNA.
