Red Rum landing the National double. The grey Esban won the previous year if anyone has any footage of that would love to see it.

Helene he was such a lovely horse and very friendly. I was so glad I saw him a few months before he died at his 30th birthday when he paraded at Aintree. I met him so many times the best when I got to meet him at his home at Southport.

Red Rum was an amazing horse who had an incredible constitution rarely matched in the whole history of thoroughbred racing. Btw thanks a lot for sharing this.

It ticks me off that Wikipedia has Red Rum as having "fallen only once". I appreciate they took this from an alternative source on the Internet, but it's still wrong. He unseated his rider. Rummy never went down EVER.

We will never see his like again...

An absolutely gorgeous horse, very well mannered horse, my niece and nephew literally swung from his lovely neck when he opened a betting office in Rhyl in the 1980's,
  • Still watching clips of the incomparable Red Rum in amazement on YouTube in September 2022... I never will tire of watching this freak of nature... God Bless you Rummy - and thanks for the memories... RSN...
  • Red Rum was even more amazing if you remember he was bred to be a flat racer and started racing much younger than his rivals before transferring to National Hunt racing. Nothing in his bloodlines should have produced a steeplechaser, let alone one of his calibre.

Fantastic footage! It's great to hear the names of horses I'm only really familiar with through watching recordings of old Grand Nationals.

Wish I'd me met him. I only got into horse racing a few years ago, and yet, have fallen in love with this horse. I keep getting goosebumps watching his old races and old clips of him on the beach and trying to kick the cars down the street! And...what a great name! Amazing horse x
  • Stirring stuff, even after all these years and many re-runs! Rummy still the King of Aintree <3
