  • I love these archived nationals featuring the great Peter O’Sullevan and Julian Wilson. Brilliant and legendary.

L`Escargot has never been given the credit he deserves as a Dual Gold Cup Winner who is one of only two horses in history to have won the national & Gold cup in their careers. Tommy Carberry gave him a lovely ride and he was cantering over his field from the Canal Turn. In the space he also won the Gold Cup on Ten Up and Irish National on Brown Lad.

  • We were there with wonderful seats and paddock access, thanks to a gift from wonderful Bill Clarke, my father-in-law, I was able to be almost nose to nose with Red Rum as he walked around before the race. That race was a once in a lifetime experience for me...I'm so glad that all this new technology has given me the chance to re-live it all these years later... It was
  • What a performance from L’ Escargot - next years winner Rag Trade just faded late on. Julian Wilson gave Hi Ken the ultimate commentators kiss of death there ...
  • Spanish Steps was another great National runner. Always got round & often placed, like 3rd in this one.

I can remember picking L'Escargot to win, it's a buzz to be able to watch the race again.

At 11:26, you can see the covered up body of Land Lark who fell at the Chair. As others have said, Beau Bob's jockey should have pulled him up before diving over the steepest part of Becher's Brook on a tired horse, or at least took him over the other side of the fence where the drop was much less severe. He would have died instantly with landing on his neck like that. It's really sad what happened to Up For Review yesterday, but it's more upsetting the way people are screaming for the race to be abolished, and even all National Hunt racing to be scrapped. You try to explain to them that this was the first fatality in the race for SEVEN years, and the strides the industry has made to make the race safer with the fences reduced to the size of upturned dandy brushes, but the bastards just won't have it.

This renewal with just 32 runners has more class at the top than the 2023 race. L'Escargot was a classy hurdler - Irish champion and 2nd fav for the champion hurdle at one time.

Beau Bobs jockey should have been banned for not pulling a clearly knackered horse up before Bechers

just a mention of my favourite who ran well to finish fifth -The Dikler
  • @ianbennett1491
Spanish Steps was a class Horse. It always got round the course and got placed. Each way backers dream.
