MicroG has been a lifesaver for users of new Huawei phones šš½

I'm one of the developers on the team and it makes me happy to see you reviewing and spreading awareness of our baby Calyx OS :)
-
I thoroughly enjoy calyx on my Pixel 4a 5G. THe org I work for gave a sizable donation to calyx & graphene to help make these AOSPs better overall.
-
Not tracking call logs for domestic violence/safety services actually blew me away. You're right, it has thoughtful features that I wouldn't even expect them to think of. I think it's awesome, I'd love a comparison to grapheneOs too. They're quite different but have a similar concept
-
I love the idea of the OS, hope this takes off!
-
This should have been the OS for "freedom" phone.
-
I really wish some of those privacy OS would organize and pool their resource into one big force rather than be splintered across dozens of version. You got Lineage OS, Graphene OS, Pine OS, Pure OS, Lune OS, Postmarket OS, Sailfish OS Kai OS and now Calyx OS (plus all the dead ones Firefox OS). All great privacy focused OS. all have fairly low adoption rates and very limited selection of supported devices, sure some of them are android and some are pure Linux which is probably an unbridgeable divide but even if only the android ones unite I am sure they'd be able to put up a much more serious competition to google.

I'd love to have a smartphone OS that we can install and use with old phones. Like Linux for smartphones. A rolling release will be awesome. Opensource and self hosted apps. An OS that will prolong phones.

Was in the middle of Arun talking about how Google is selling / handing over your data then got an ad for a Google nest camera š

Arun, CalyxOS stable Android 12 is now available for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. I'd love to know what the user experience is on that. Apparently Android12L will add the auto theming options to AOSP ROMs...
-
1:23 I watched that moment 10 times in a row! Nice catch!

Arun's video: starts His chair: "my time has come!"

A big shoutout to the guy who catches and throws everything. I guess he is Batman.

I'm so happy finally a competitors coming in we need a consistent Source like that because companies tend in want to monopolize after they grow to a certain point
-
This is what the freedom phone dreamed of being.
-
As a XDA member for over 7 years I would say that this is really interesting.

I haven't gone fulll anti-google but I have intalled Pixel Experience which is a really vanilla experience of Android.. it's simply insane, my battery has gone from barely lasting a day to sometimes lasting more than 2 days. All that thanks to the non existing bloatware, tracking code or stuff like that running on the background (except from google apps themselves)
-
Sadly, I don't have a Google Pixel, so i can't try Calyx right now, but I've been using a Samsung Galaxy SIII Neo as my main mobile phone for quite a while now, and Lineage OS runs pretty good on it. I decided to not use Play Services or even MicroG on it because of performance reasons, and to be honest, this is the best experience I've ever had on a mobile phone. I had to get used to having no Google Maps app and RCS Messaging (and of course only EDGE Connection, but that's alright). But now, I just love it.
