My mom has been at war with bed bugs for almost 2 years now, spent over 8000 on exterminators all failing to do their job, not one of them even suggested steam or how to properly use diatomaceous earth, she can't afford exterminators anymore and has resorted to harsh chemicals which seem to have handled the bulk of them, but with what I've learned here I can hopefully help her to finish them off and prevent future problems, thank you.

Prof. Wong is the kind of academic I love. Huge nerd, loves his subject, happy to share, has a lab of horrors in the basement.

Its funny how these little demons are basically land mosquitos, but the mental toll they take is devastating.

I had bedbugs a few years back. We got them from a hotel. We should have known something was up when we had to leave in the middle of the night because my son was having an incontrollable asthma attack. We found the little blood suckers in his room about 3 months later. It was bad. Not much was on the market to treat them, so I did some testing myself. Nothing this scientific, but with clear results. I captured 10 bedbugs at a time, put them in a plastic container and added the treatment as desired. Diatomaceous earth does work well, but so does boric acid or borax, but at a fraction of the cost. Sprinkle the carpet and baseboards with either of the 3, and the effect is the same. The cheap powdered laundry detergent works well too, but not as well. Boric acid had the best success. I did find a combination of pesticides does work with a residual effect. It's Cyonara 9.7 (Lambda-cyhalothrin 9.7%), Bifenthrin, and Permethrin. These work slightly different from each other, so a generational immunity is unlikely, and are each safe for indoor use. The Cyonara has a pleasant cherry blossom smell. Just steam, spray, them put down powder. Those little blood suckers were gone in a few weeks. Given their long food intake intervals, we still see one on occasion, but they are typically already dieing.
  • Mark accidentally avoided the most simple advice that everyone hears but pays no attention to, he did in fact let the bed bugs bite.

Dude, this is not edutainment anymore, this is actual public service. Well done.

We had them in our bedroom. Tried the bombs and other things like spraying them with rubbing alcohol. 90% worked the best. I even put vasoline all over the bed frame to catch them. I caught quite a few. Ended up throwing the matress and box springs out. That was about 2 years ago and I have not seen one since. Keeping my fingers crossed.

In the same house for 25 yrs. NEVER had any time of bug infestation until: We bought a bed in a box (mattress) in December and now are on our second huge bitefest. I just used the Diatamaceious yesterday and Im hoping for great results. The fogger seemed to work for a month or so and this video mentioned that the fogger simply makes the bugs immune to them. Best of luck getting the bugs gone to everyone !

I've never experienced bed bugs, but this has inspired me to burn my house down just to be safe.
  • This dude has built credibility like no one I've ever seen. He just said "ignore all the advice you've ever heard about bedbugs" and I just thought "okay" with no hesitation

We should be finding ways to get rid of them permanently bc we don’t need them.

As a former Pest Control technician, I endorse this message. I also want to stress the importance for those living in apartments buildings to let management know about the bedbugs. Small problems can get out of hand fast and it is very common for the person that reported the problem to be near someone with a much bigger infestation.
  • Having been a pest control technician for many years, this video was so awesome. Thank you Mark for showing the science! We need a pest control series from you.
  • Great video Mark well done. I knew all of this some 5 years ago. 100%. spot on. Pest control companies work their business on control and not massive elimination.

Thank you Mark! This video changed my life entirely! Your recomendations helped me to get rid of bed bugs in my dorm room completely! Thank you sooo much!

Years I ago I noticed bed bugs. This is how I eradicated them. 1) I sealed my mattress with a bag, as suggested here. 2) I cleaned all my clothes, sheets etc. 3) I bought four small bowls and put diatomaceous earth in all of them. I then placed each leg of my bed into one bowl. That way when the bugs wanted to climb up to me, they would climb up the bowl and fall into the diatomaceous earth. Every morning I found bugs in the bowls. Within a week they were all dead.
  • Bad idea watching this at 2am while in bed. Now I feel things crawling on me!😭
