Ukraine's surprise cross-border incursion into Russia's Kursk region has forced Moscow to redeploy troops from the front lines. Ukrainian units launched the attack on Tuesday morning, sending troops and tanks across the border. Kursk has declared a state of emergency and Russian President Vladimir Putin described the attack as a "major provocation". Russian authorities claim five residents have been killed. Kyiv has not yet commented on the operation.
