Episode #4: The Business of Government: Dialogue with Michael Hallsworth

Published 2023-08-07
The following is an episode of a Hub special series called The Business of Government, hosted by award-winning journalist and best-selling author Amanda Lang, about how government works and, more importantly, why it sometimes doesn't work. In this five-part series, Lang conducts in-depth interviews with experts and former policymakers and puts it all in perspective for the average Canadian.

This episode's featured guest is Michael Hallsworth, Managing Director of the Behavioral Insights Team (BIT) North America and the author of Behavioral Insights. The two discuss how behavioural science can be used to better understand and improve complex systems within government, the growingly popular concept of a ''behavioural government," and the potential effects behavioural science can have on policy and politics.

There is not enough common sense being used nowadays. The algorithm has distorted people thoughts with very negative results. If those same algorithms were used in a positive ways, I believe people would recover and start acting in a kinder, gentle way. Great conversation, thank you
