"Some people just can´t quit" I like how that line from the fireman portrays the way society views addiction as a matter of willpower rather than the multilayered problem it actually is.

This is actually funnier if you don't take it as metaphorical, and he actually did have a miniature, if emotionally brittle, female fire demon living in his lighter

I like how when El was around all of the other fire, she suffocated along with Ryan because of the lack of oxygen around her due to the flames that were feeding off of it. Pretty accurate

This is a very good example of actual gaslighting in any sort of relationship. It also happens to be an animated film that is cute/funny.

This is an excellent metaphor for abusive relationships AND addiction, AND fire safety. Well done.

as someone addicted to cigarettes AND who has experience with toxic relationships and gaslighting, this is uncomfortably accurate lol.

Well done! Gaslighting & addiction are heavy topics, but this was light enough cautionary tale to get the point across. And to those arguing, this did have gaslighting, if not metaphorical. The lighter both presented tendencies of a gas lighter such as pushing blame and guilt onto their victim making them feel like it was their mistake and fault, causing self doubt and lacking self-esteem in decisions. Metaphorically, the lighter represents gas lighters in a toxic relationship, making themselves out to be the victim, pushing blame, then convincing their victim they were at fault & leaving them feeling like they still need them in the end, like how the guy still reached out for her before his death/ko.

I never thought such classic music can fit in this kind of animation so well

This is awesome! I'm a (mentally ill myself) therapist who works a lot with teenagers, and I'm about to start a summer group where we watch short films and then talk about them; this is a great way to talk about gaslighting in their relationships and families, plus the animation is really good! I love the little touches on how she moves.

I love how this perfectly protrays addiction and abuse and this short animation managed to capture that in a single short film
