Something is making our cars uglier, and we can do nothing about it!

In recent years several new laws and regulations have been introduced, and it seems they are ruining the aesthetics of all-new cars! To make matters worse, some of the rules and regulations that have been introduced will alter cars so much, that some relatively new cars have had to go out of production altogether!

In this video, Mat will run you through 10 aspects of cars that are having to change due to these new rules. For example, all new cars have to come with AEB sensors. This stands for autonomous emergency braking. Now of course this is important to help cars avoid collisions, the problem is, it results in large boxes having to be added to the front of new cars, and they just look awful!

But that’s not all! There are now regulations for the size of door mirrors, too. In the past you would expect to see small cars come with compact door mirrors which still served their purpose. However, in the modern day, door mirrors have to come of a certain size, and we think these mirrors just look oversized on certain cars, further ruining the aesthetics!

But of course, one of the biggest law changes that is changing new cars is the banning of internal combustion engines. Previously, the grille on the front of a car was a great way for manufacturers to show off their identity, but the removal of petrol-powered engines means the grilles aren’t required, so manufacturers are now adding plastic grilles which just lend themselves to ruining the car’s aesthetics even further!

The question is, which of these laws and regulations do you think has ruined cars the most? Let us know in the comments!

The max height of the front headlights is a godsend of a law. Too many times im being blinded by a pickup truck with lights higher than 6ft high!

Most of the new cars: cheap inside, ugly outside.

I dunno, I think a lot of these are reasonable laws and it's just the manufacturers fucking up. My Suzuki VItara has the front radar neatly hidden behind the Suzuki logo, the rear lights are not on the trunk door but on the bodywork like they used to be since forever, and larger mirrors are a godsend. DLRs being designed ugly is, again, on manufacturers, the law doesn't say they need to do weird shit with them. And that's how it goes for pretty much everything on this list.

Tbh it would be better to aim this outrage at the car manufacturers rather than the laws. Nobody is forcing these companies to make half of these designs look so bad. They just don't want to take a risk on making big redesigns so they're just trying to cram these new things into old designs in as cheap a way as possible.
  • @KYRJAMESEY
Problem with DRL's is the idiots who drive around at night with them on but zero lights at the back, completely oblivious.

It's not the law that makes cars ugly. It's the company. They're just not bothering to design any of these things to look good.

Hiring unqualified people is a problem for many organizations around the world. Qualified people would be able to fix all these issues without destroying the design of the car. We are seeing this lack of HR hiring skills from car makers to Boeing to the government. And in some cases the work performed by these unqualified individuals is actually dangerous.

No, it's definitely car designers masking cars ugly. Not the regulations. The first car is a prime example

The law never ruined the Cybertruck, that one comes ruined from the factory!
  • @OlaDoering
The sensor on the AMG S-Class doesn't have anything to do with the AEB. It's only there if you buy the Level 3 autonomous system. Besides: all of those laws make sense from a safety and efficiency perspective. Some companies implement them nicely, some don't. It truly speaks to the ability of the designers

Number plates have been a law since a freakin' long time, I blame car manufacturers for not adapting their designs around this.

The restomod business is going to really boom. No touch screens, no extra costs for all this stuff to go wrong, get in the way or distract you when driving. Older cars are going to rock. Restore rather than recycle.

    poor BMW design team haha
  • @20quid
"it's about to get worse, the safety regulations are about to get even stricter" Spoken like someone with the most messed up priorities ever.

The disappearance of Toyota GR86 is the saddest news I learned by watching this video. A fantastic car
  • @badass6300
That has been a fact since the early 2000s, cars became fat and heavy with big pillars, terrible shapes and lines...
  • @TheLeafyo
I'll forgive them if they make the BMW pig snout grill illegal.
  • @raymonkee
Spats are in there to reduce air pressure, effectively lifting the air away from the wheel arch, it also reduces the amount of dirt and potentially stone chips along the body work.
  • @TheDuckClock
Imagine whining about safety features that saves lives simply because it "looks ugly". "Sorry I hit your family cat since I pulled the AEBS out of the front, but I needed to make sure my car looks pwetty".
