Already moved on to Godot. With the huge amount of donations and new users is setting itself to become the next Blender in the gaming engine space. Only open source projects can keep the greedy corporations in check when they think they have a monopoly they'll always try to pull this type of fiasco.

to be honest, now if i have to do something like what unity is doing, id reference unitys pricing as a joke before immediately turning to explain the reason for pricing adjustments and say its to pay for all the new and incredible features, which it would be cuz otherwise it would be free

No one should be surprised by any of this. This is business 101. When trying to rip someone off, start with a high offer, then knock it down a little, "because you seem like a good guy" by lowering the price or waving a fee. The new lower price is still overpriced but now you aren't the jerk salesman but the hero who was nice and saved the customer some money. Literally every car salesman does this, and so does Unity.
