The price of honor. The power of friendship. THE KARATE KID, Part II. Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita re-create the roles that brought them international acclaim in The Karate Kid. Karate student, Daniel Larusso (Macchio), accompanies his wise and whimsical teacher, Mr. Miyagi (Morita), to his ancestral home in Okinawa. For the boy, it's a journey to an exotic new world offering new clues to his mentor's secret past. For Miyagi, it's an opportunity to see his father one last time and tore kindle a romance with his childhood sweetheart (Nobu McCarthy). But Miyagi's return also re-ignites a bitter feud with long-time enemy, Sato (Danny Kamekona) - a feud that involves young Daniel in a brilliant collision of cultures and combat. Now, far away from the tournaments, the cheering crowds and the safety of home, Daniel will face his greatest challenge ever when teacher becomes student and the price of honor is life itself.

I met Ralph Macchio at a comic-con recently and was able to ask him about this scene, if it was filmed on location or in studio. He told me it was indeed filmed on location in Hawaii, they had massive rain machines and it was freezing cold out. He also said that for some of the intense winds, in the scene, they flew a helicopter just over top of them (something that you probably couldn't get away with today 😅). So awesome.
  • How lucky he was in Okinawa. He saved Yuna, And she saved his business. Daniel spared Chozen, And Chozen spared him and helped with Cobra Kai.

"...old friend..." really gets me. Despite everything, Miyagi remains loyal and full of forgiveness.

Sato's expression at 4:12 says it all. He finally realizes he has created a monster in Chozen.
  • Mr Miyagi taught him very important lessons that you need to have in life

You have to say this for Sato. When Miyagi raised his hand and Sato thought it was to finally kill him, the old man didn't blink. He was going to look Miyagi right in the eye as he was killed. Not even a flinch. Also - Chozen had a lot to live up to after this movie, and it has been an honor and a personal pleasure to live long enough to see him not only redeem himself, but thrive in spite who he was at this time in his life.

I love Sato’s smile when Daniel thanks him. Just like Chozen, can look so scary when they’re full of hate, and so warm once they finally let it go. So good

Nothing more beautiful than watching a man reclaim his soul. I was so proud of Sato.
  • What I love most about this scene is it shows what matters most for being a true martial artist. It is not being the strongest or most skilled. It is about using what you have learned to conquer fear and danger itself. What Daniel lacked in strength and skill he made up for in sheer will, determination and selflessness. He never hesitated despite being skinny and clumsy. He was a true martial artist
  • 4:11 The look on Sato's face when he realizes what damage his hatred and acting like a total jerk has done. Now everybody can see it and they are staring right at him.

Man Mr. Miyagi breaking that beam and not even harming Sato was totally badass

"I can not help him, but I'll be back in 30 years to train him". 🤣🤣🤣

  • Daniel's reaction to Mr. Miyagi breaking the log in half is everything. It shows that Mr. Miyagi is the best practice of Miyagi Do but today Chozen is. But he has to learn from Sato those secret techniques so there is validity for Sato to be the purest practitioner of the art.

Sato didn't really want to fight Miyagi, but he had to do it to defend his honour, which in Okinawa is something that's even more precious than living. However, when he sees Miyagi saving his life and seeing also his protege doing the same with Yuna, he realises that he was already dishonoring himself in trying to force himself and Miyagi doing something they didn't want to do
  • This scared me alot, as a little kid. I was glad Daniel and Miyagi saved the little girl and Sato.
  • I don't know why but when Sato says "Miyagi, you are lower than dog" that had me rolling!!!!

Pat Morita really gave it his all in these movies. The fact that he was battling alcoholism and depression his whole life makes his performances even more heroic.
  • 2:52 I love how afterward you can see Miyagi clearly tired as that took all of his strength to save his old friend.
