Not exactly, it's signal infrastructure, which is heavily automated. The arsonists knew exactly what to hit, suggesting inside knowledge. Services are not expected to return to normal before Monday.

Having seen that multiple different parts of the infrastructure were targeted, it looks like it is not simple arson. Possibly a terrorist attack?

I don't think there are " signal boxes" on the High-Speed routes, more likely unmanned control centres housing equipment as the signalling is automated and controlled from a remote location elsewhere in France.

Time to go to a wireless system of control and signaling. This antiquated system of cables and boxes which are vulnerable to sabotage is unacceptable. Should have already been ditched when we all transitioned to cell phones.
