Hi Matt, Just watched the video with the family, kids screaming "there's our car" anxiety levels were high watching this even though we no longer own the car still felt like my car was being reviewed. I had bought the car (CA09HHC) for my wife after the birth of our daughter it was the replacement to her previous car MK5 GTi also DSG fortunately no issue with that one. Got the car from Keystone cars in Ringwood about 10/15 mins from Bournemouth, back then car had 74k miles already. it had a horrible head unit with a parrot Bluetooth hence the aftermarket radio. when the issue started beginning of the year it wasn't consistently happening so when I took the car to VAG Technik my local VW specialist it would behave and not throw up any issue but they tried the DSG service hence you see it was serviced this year but to no avail. they advised taking it to a CAL Trans in Denton and they confirmed Mechatronic issue. The numbers quoted (like £2000) for repair did not make sense as we were also aware of the oil leak that required attention so we decided to trade it in, which we did for a Sportage. Oh the Mrs likes Classic FM 😁
  • The best videos start with: There's some money in this✅ And end with: I've massively overspent✅ Another great video Matt!

If I were living in UK, I definitely was going to buy a car from you! It's hard to find a dealer who is doing it not only for the money but also for the love of cars, I'm from Bulgaria and here every dealer is a scammer (false milleage, hidden damage and so on). Keep up the good work, I love your videos
  • @test21073
I'm not sure how old you are, but I'm 43. My late farther was a dealer and I can relate to everything you do, including your passion for cars and the trade. Your knowledge and attention to detail is admirable and I only wish I was brave enough to earn a living selling cars, but I do not think I could work with Joe public. Keep up the good work! Mike
  • I'm seriously considering getting my next car from High Peak Autos. I will be asking for a video made of the car I like beforehand though. 😁
  • @skeelo69
You should add to the Merch store a key fob that says .... I've Massively Overspent 😂😂😂
  • @FTFLCY
I've done about 200K miles with VW DSGs and never had the slightest problem.
  • Well Matt..... as a long term GTI fan (not fanatic) I was looking forward to this vid. I have been a subscriber to your channel for a while now and relish your in-depth analysis of cars and life in general.  This Ep was, as always full of useful insights to the world of motoring.  What sold it to me however was, "Oeh, Jeremy Vine, we don't want that do we"... brilliant!  I'd drive up to your showroom from London just on that!!!
  • @gaznoo
you know I love this channel you never fail to entertain, and tell me what car to avoid, well done matt
  • Mad that it needed that work after 2 gearbox services. VAG technic is potentially a firm in the East Midlands. If it is them, they’re a couple of Slovakian guys who specialise in big Audi/VW repairs/re-builds. Really knowledgeable guys and great videos to watch, plus I’ve been learning Slovakian, so I know when they’re swearing! Nice one Matt.
  • @CaiPrice
Your vids always make me smile. They’re so grounding because you always overspend and that is almost always the case with cars. People think they can buy a car not maintain it then sell it for profit. Great vids dude 👍
  • Always nice when you find joy in your car. What a nice trade in. The original number plates, present and correct bottle opener, and radio tuned to Classic FM tell me everything I need to know. The previous owner was clearly a good sort.
  • @nealjoyce8696
Just to add a little balance, our last 5 cars have all been DSG or S-Tronic and not only have they been perfect but they are awesome and wouldn’t ever buy anything else 💯%👌
  • Radio coming on in reverse reminds me of the time I bought a Vauxhall Monaro. I was driving it home up the M1 when a tree & bench light came up on the dashboard with an alarm signal. I couldn't stop on the motorway and I was in a contraflow so I carried on to the next junction or services. The speed dropped and I became a mobile chicane. Then there was a horrible scraping noise and I was pulling my hair out. Once I was able to stop I checked the car over thinking that the exhaust had dropped off but, no it hadn't. I restarted the car and the light went out but the scraping noise was still there. Turned out to be the radio that wasn't tuned in to anything. When I got home, I did some digging in the manual .... When travelling over 50 miles, the "Take a Break" light will come on followed by an alarm. If ignored, it would turn the radio on getting progressively louder as the speed gets slower. I couldn't find how to turn it off so I took it straight back and bought something else.
  • I currently have an 85,000 mile 2013 GTI , bought brand new. No engine/trans/elec/computer problems at all. Had to replace an ignition coil, a sunroof drain, and now the interior roof is sagging. That's it. Reliable, fun car.
  • @boybandit6129
You are an honest decent guy... when i need my next car I will be looking you up. Reputation is everything.
  • @DJOllieK
Haha, love the comment about GTI fans, here are some of my thoughts. The aftermarket headunit keeps coming on in reverse because on the stock headunit it would come on and display your parking distance sensors visually but obviously this isnt present on the aftermarket unit. I was also screaming timing chain, timing chain at one point! The engine is great in this car but the engine light was probably on because the intake runner flaps are faulty and the intake mainfold needs replacing. The light can be reset but it will come back on again after a couple of weeks. Keep up the great work and the realities of trading cars!

Had my first Golf Gti in 1981, Mk1 convertible. Had two Mk2s a Mk 3 and a finally a VR6. All from new kept for a couple of years and run for about 60k miles. never had a problem with any of them. More recently had a 2018 tsi from new and di 20k in that and never even had a service due before the two year lease was up. All I did was fill it with petrol, refill the washer bottle and check tyre pressures. great cars all of them. I'd never get one with a DSG box though or a ten year old one.
  • @ttall3334
I have a 2009 2.0 TDI Golf Estate, 115k on the clock. I service it once a year and it has never missed a beat, a real workhorse. Thanks for the vid Matt
  • these videos are like crack so addictive! when you said can you guess I literally was shouting at my screen “BOTH”😂 spend more on fixing it than what you paid getting it MAD!! just shows your passion for cars fare play 👏🏼
