Chester County's HazMat truck is a formidable force, ready to tackle any emergency that comes its way. With its extensive array of specialized tools and equipment, it's well-prepared to handle even the most challenging situations the county might face.
One of the truck's key capabilities is its ability to detect radiation, making it an invaluable asset in responding to potential incidents at nearby nuclear power plants. This hazmat unit serves a large area, and thanks to the dedication of its 30 paid-on-call staff and the expertise of Chief Robert Steward, it operates with utmost efficiency and effectiveness.
In this gripping tour, Chief Robert Steward personally guides us through the truck, unveiling the secrets hidden behind every door. From advanced detection systems to state-of-the-art decontamination tools, witness the impressive arsenal designed to safeguard the community.
But that's not all – we couldn't resist giving you a firsthand experience of what it's like to be in the thick of the action. Join our host, Mike Borrello, as he gets suited up in a Class A hazmat suit, providing a thrilling glimpse into the challenges these brave responders face in hazardous situations.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chief Robert Stewart and his exceptional team for graciously showcasing the inner workings of this life-saving unit. Without their dedication and commitment, our community would not be as secure.

Every Engine, Medic, truck, and Rescue can detect radiation. Post 911 they handed rad detectors out like crazy!

As i coachbuilder for 13 years i can confirm these bespoke build are FRIGGIN expensive. The hours involved with designing and building these things is mindboggling. Those shutters are a PITA especially when the office staff order the wrong size shutters and you have already built the vehicle 😡 you then have to make the vehicle fit the shutters because havent got 6 weeks to wait for the replacement... bad times when paired with the bespoke shelving that pulls out on rails which needs altering to suit. We built a twin deck Firefighting unit as a curtainsider that could carry 8 IBC units that could be individually tapped into to the internal pipework for spraying all sorts of retardants for every type of fire it even had it own forklift (moffett) on the back. To this day ive never seen a forklift with a its own blue light on top of it since :D

I hope you did that when it was a bit cooler out! I wouldn't want to be in that suit even for a minute today. Great to see a military brother doing good in retirement!

For me as a former firefighter with dangerous goods training very interesting how it works in the USA. What I notice is that the chemical protection suits are almost the same in Germany and the USA. Difference: in Germany the boots are firmly attached to the suit.

I did HAZWOPER response... Those suits are no joke hot. We wore Ice pack vests to keep from heat exposure here in the deep south.
