FULL RECIPE:

Serves: 3 - 4
Preparation time: 20ish minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup Brown Jasmine Rice
2 cups water
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
Bay leaf
Pinch Salt
Directions:

Thoroughly rinse rice in a sieve, then add to medium saucepot and combine with 2 cups of water (remember: 1 part rice, 2 parts water), add bayleaf, pinch of salt and chopped garlic.

Cover and heat on med-high heat to bring to a boil.

Once boiling, lower heat to lowest setting, partially cover and simmer until the liquid is absorbed, around 8-10 minutes. Do not stir. (To check, tilt pan slightly, if liquid appears, continue to cook for 3 minutes.) Remove from heat when water is gone, let sit for 3 - 4 minutes.

Fluff with a fork and serve.

Even though this one is a basic recipe everyone is or has started somewhere and I appreciate it just the same. The humor makes these even more enjoyable. I hope these get the attention they deserve, I can tell how much thought is put into production and the end product is worth it.

Thank you. I have been cooking rice in a plastic microwave gismo for a decade because in a pot it came out like morter. You explained a lot of things which i did not know before and i like the idea of using it as a timer. Great vlog. Thanks again

I had soo much fun watching this video your mum is a dish! At my young age I can't still cook rice properly so it was extremely informative, thanks Derek. By the way I kind of like to listen to the instructions being given in cups and spoons, after learning to cook from watching food tv network, around 20 years ago while living in Pittsburgh, and being in UK for the last 10 years I still use the same measurements! 😇😊 Thanks keep the good work! 💚
  • OK I will try it this way. Had given up on the 'steaming' method and gone to free boiling, like pasta, because I could NOT get the rice to cook without making it a gummy sticky blecchy mess. For like 30 years! Free boiling has yielded better results but not always perfect, more than likely because I don't get enough water off after it has completely cooked through.

Cumin added when cooking rice results in the best taste. Okay, this was like a drama flick. The suspense, the mystery, the action! I could hardly sit still!
