Is Albania Affordable? Cost of 30 days in Tirana & Saranda πŸ‡¦πŸ‡±

Published 2024-05-08
We spent April 2024 in Albania - 2 weeks in Tirana and 2 weeks in Saranda. In this video we break down all our costs for the month. How did we do? What did it cost us for the whole month? Did we stay within our $4,000 a month budget?

We are Harry and Sharlene, a retired military couple who sold our home and all the "stuff" and are now full-time slow travelers who are living on our military pension as we travel the world.

Must See Places to Visit While in Albania:
Tirana:
Skanderbeg Square
Bunk Art 2
Saranda:
Blue Eye
Butrint National Park (Unesco)
Gjirokaster (Unesco)

Our favorite places to eat in Saranda:
Best Soulvaki by Mario - mario-fast-food.al/
Marini's - www.facebook.com/marinisaranda21/
Haxhi - www.facebook.com/RestaurantHaxhi/

Dick and Devil American Pub (Expat bar)

Hotel where we stayed in Saranda
Hotel Lili 2 - hotel-lili2.com/

Be aware, this hotel has 150 steps up from the road to the hotel, if you have mobility issues this might not be the best option for you. If you have a car you can drive right up to the front entrance.

You’re very lucky in Albania, you met only the good people and reasonable priced hotels that provide you with kitchen. I lived 4 months in Tirana, couldn’t get a hotel that allows me to cook .

Nice one guys! Those monthly costs are pretty similar to ours. We eat out less, but our entertainment costs (Dick and Devil) contribute significantly to the monthly costs. Hope you are well in Greece and was so lovely to meet with you guys!
  • Love that y'all broke everything down & gave the total for a full month of travel expenses. That's awesome! Can't wait to see your next adventures on video ❀
  • Well you two are living the dream! I hope all is well and you have a greater time with each new place. Question: How far out have you planned out? Is it a very loose plan or do you like to have all the details planned out a year away? Being a points guy myself, I learned early on that to get the best deals I’d go out 11 months, book, and then monitor things to see if the costs go down. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to see where the adventure takes you!
  • There's no way you can make that budget work in the US. Did your place have a full kitchen and laundry?
