  • just started fishing this year. heard all the talk about senkos but never fished em right. I watched this video and sh*t you not, the very next day i caught what was close to a five pounder (4.17lb) smallmouth for my first fish ever on a senko. Thank you dude! the future is bright :D

As kid, I remember hearing stories of my cousin learning about a new technique from locals - turned out to be a wacky rigged senko with a bobber. First time trying a pack of watermelon white laminate senkos, ran through a whole pack with 15+ Bass within 2 hours. It really opened the deep rabbit hole for Bass Fishing, and 10+ years later, still is the ol reliable. Any time I need to get a bite (or even get someone on one), I reach for a senko. Definitely will check these tips out to up the game

Great video! I’ve been using these Senko techniques for years and JB is spot on. I was fortunate to have learned them, but it took a lot of trial and error.
  • #1 - technique is called dead sticking #2 - color is a factor based on sun light penetration and forage base #3 - fish the senko mixed in with other techniques and when you miss a top water bite throw the senko back in there #4 - hooks vary but use what works not what looks good…circle hooks seem to be reel good wacky VMC wacky hook is deadly #5 - we use 20lb braid with 12 lb fluorocarbon on spinning gear and muscle the fish 🐟 in 🎣 Great tips thanx for the vid ❤🎉❤
  • Excellent video and great tips. I'm a work in progress when it comes to the Senko.... I'm just not patient enough.

45 yrs of fishing/ice fishing has taught me that outside of a few general environmental truisms (weather, water temp, etc), fish will eat what they want, when they want, regardless of the color, size, line, time of day, you name it. I can't count how many times I've caught sub-18" rainbows and brownies on a pike line with a 50# mono or black wire leader pulling a #5 Blue Fox spinner, regardless of color, or the black crappie I caught last year on a Texas rig pulled by straight 50# braid, or the success of using a Ned rig when ice fishing. Appreciate the video, truly do, but there is no authoritative way to fish a Senko...

Great content! I use 8# braid but with a 4 foot fluoro leader. I agree that the braid itself is seen too much so I found I get a lot more hookups with the fluorocarbon leader.
  • Never had any luck with a senko even though I know it's supposed to work. Can't wait to try the color chart to see if that helps.

Thanks man! I’m a self taught fisherman for a few years now and I’ve caught maybe 10 bass total. All tips are welcome. I believe I’ve been just working them baits too fast !! Like you said I’m doing what I see on YouTube haha
  • @xekis
I've caught more bass on senko style baits than anything. They will hit on the drop, always super fun, but I've also had a lot of hits slowly dragging the bait along the bottom Texas rigged. In clear water you can see them hanging around and following it until they can't stand it anymore.
  • @randayho
great info!! i've been fishing senkos for years and had great success, however your tips might make fishing with them even better. i've always used texas-rig weightless on a 3/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook, thrown it out and let it sink!! have never done much with a wacky rig but I might try it now. i've always used moss green colored braided line, most of the water I fish isn't clear anyway. what do you think about the 5 inch senkos with the different colored tips, like the Cinnamon/Purple Flake/Methiolate or the Black Blue Flake Blue Tail? They have been great for me!
  • Great tips! Agree with each of your pointers! Also these are great baits for kids! Keep them from snagging up every cast!
  • @collinmc90
Solid video. Still working out my senko set up. I did get my first smally with a drop shot the other day, texas rigged with a green pumpkin 5" worm.
  • @colonelgofish
I catch a lot of fish on a senko. Green pumpkin with red or black flake works for me in dark green water. Visibility about a foot sometimes not that. TVA lake. Old Hickory in TN.
  • My dad had a bbq restaurant in Page! We probably spent time together on Powell and didn’t even know it!
