In today's video, we'll take an in-depth look at how to use the pillar glitch as well as some creative uses for it, such as repairing the walls of the Castle! I also explain how it's similar but different to the rug glitch, and more of a subset of the group selection feature.

  • I have only just recently subscribed and just have to say how much I enjoy your videos. Your laid back and thoughtful manner lends so well to the teaching arena. I love listening to you talk and I laugh at all your corny jokes. And on this video, after I heard the story about how to save 2 birds, I decided I just had to thank you! Great story! Thank for giving all us late-to-the-game Fallout nerds a way to get the most out of the experience in a highly entertaining way. I’m a huge fan
  • New subscriber here in 2024! I've played Fallout 4 since launch but only recently have I tried to up my settlement building skills. Thank you so much for all of these wonderful tutorial videos!

  • Skooled Zone, You should place a Mutfruit on the teachers desk for every set you build for this series. Sincerely, Jennifer M. Montgomery
  • I didn't sub for your content,as much as a few other factors. 1) Your attitude. You have a wonderful demeanor, & are always concerned that everyone, pc,Xbox, PS4, all get along in the comments & communication with each other is helpful to all,& key to a friendlier inviroment for getting information as well as meeting people. 2) Your love of animals. My philosophy, animals are people too, better infact. The 2 birds with one stone thing, sealed it for me. 3) The content is great,i did learn a few things,i wish I knew when i wasnt modding, but this,as i said, wasnt my reason for the sub. You remind me of Gopher in that you care about the community & we're not here to fight about platforms,we're here for entertainment, friendships, & knowledge. The love of games,& Beth games in particular. So THANK YOU
  • Man, I forgot how restrictive the vanilla workshop mode was! Hopefully the next Fallout will be more forgiving to consoles.

A tip for repairing the Castle walls from another video: You don't need to proximity-place any pillars or scaffolding to grab the pre-built wall. Just group-pick up the wall near the top edge, and you can work it into place by standing on the battlements. The height or location you grab an object at in build-mode changes how it is held in the air when you move it around. Some trial and error will get you a nice fit on the wall. You can then fill in small gaps at the top with the 1/4 size flat floor pieces.
  • Before the DLC came out, people would use the fence posts that are in the wire fence menu. If you'll notice, everything in that menu has a duplicate. One half of the set can clip through the ground, while the other half cannot. Knowing the difference and using that to your advantage when pillar glitching can be helpful. For instance, if you DON'T want an object to clip through the ground, but stay right on top of it. Other objects that sit on a normal floor, like the ashtray can be used for this method as well. An expanded variation of the pillar glitch involves measuring the homes at Sanctuary Hills (4 x 2.5 for some). Build the floor with foundations, add a normal wall (from either the metal, wood or concrete sets), and then add a ceiling that matches the floor. Now you can pillar glitch the entire assembly into on of the houses. This method allows you to 1) make the houses count as having roofs for sleeping under and covers up hole in the roof , 2) Let's you place a floor that covers up most of the debris and leaves in most of the houses, and 3) allows you to place walls in areas to cover up the gaps in the house walls. You can then go further and pillar glitch in some glass pieces to cover the windows. To finish this off you can now place a door into the existing doorway. But, be warned, only one house lets you snap doors to the frame. That house is the yellow one that has the workbench outside of it. How do you get doors into the other frames? Place a door frame on a level piece of ground. Choose your door and snap it into place. Place your pillar tool of choice, as close to the door as possible. Now, remove the door frame. Now group select. This allows you to place the door wherever you want. And, if you don't have ocd already, trying to align a door to a frame in this way, will definitely get you there! As a side note. You can also just pillar glitch a wall with a doorway already in it, into a wall. Then snap the door in place. It just doesn't work everywhere.
  • It's been a few years - good to know these videos are still around so we can refresh....Cheers from Australia!
  • I love how you expanded on the principles of the pillar glitch. ill have to use this from now on
  • there is an easy solution to stop the pillar popping. 1. select the pillar tool. 2. cancel the selection. 3. group select the pillar tool. this should reset everything and get rid of the popping. :)
  • @camwale

  • Very well structured video, I love how you introduced it by first explaining the other "glitches" that went into it. I learned a lot, I love these.
  • I'm on a role... Video after video after video. Absolutely amazing ideas, concepts, delivery and narration. Brilliant!
  • Very helpful as usual, I’m about to take the castle, mainly to get away from our Minutemen friend and his constant nagging, so tips on wall repairs are very handy. Thanks again Paul. 😀
