In memories to those who lost their lives in the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
  • The waves aren't as strong and devastating because the force was broken by the coral reefs.... Now, see, how important they are, among other things. So we should really, seriously try our best to save and rehabilitate them

I like how ppl are just recording and standing around like it's nothing. Meanwhile I'm watching this online and I'm panicking and my anxiety is going through the roof.

I can't imagine staying and filming this. Everybody was walking around. Tsunamis scare me. I live in CA when I go to the beach if I am reading and not looking out at the ocean, I always look up at the beach to be sure the water is no receding because if it is I am running like hell! The ocean ain't no joke!

I’m from the Maldives and the tsunami was from Indonesia. Just imagine how strong it was for them if it was like this for us. There is thousands of people there dying, suffering..I just hope they all are okay 😞😥

Best tsunami video ever. Massive props to the cameraman. He was just so cool calm and collected!!

I was on 'Lohifushi' island at the time. In a hut right on the beach. The force of the water smashed our front door down and smashed the whole room up. As previous posts have said, it wasn't the size of the wave that was the issue, the force of the surge made it difficult to stay on your feet, especially with all the debris (water was about waist deep) The fear was not knowing how deep it was going to get and having no high ground to run to. The highest part of the island was only 1 metre!

This should be the youtube video of the year. You must be very brave to have filmed this up close. I would have ran a mile. Thankyou for showing the world what a tsunami is really all about.

Amazing video! It's crazy how the first wave is actually pushing itself up through the dock as it rushes towards shore. And not to mention the courage of the cameraman standing on the one same spot almost all throughout. Definitely one of the best tsunami videos on here and very educational.

I was in Port Blair Andamans during the during the Richter 9 earthquake and the tsunami hit after 10 minutes. Had to run for our lives. Our home was right near the coast and the waves submerged the ground floor flats. Terrifying experience. This fellow is very lucky. In one of the Andaman islands the waves were higher than the palm trees.

This particular island may have been slightly sheltered by another island which may have helped "break up" a huge wave and made the high water arrive more like a storm surge.  The Maldives are so beautiful.
  • @yamatowarp
I wouldn't be crazy enough to be there watching the Tsunami come in.
  • @MarginalMedia
very good your images. Congratulations for keeping shooting

I've heard about the tsunami hitting the Maldives, but I've never actually seen it. These guys were lucky, even though the waves were not that high, the tide was pretty heavy. It amazes me how nature works.

Who else is not nervous watching this vid?
