The 2023 Honda Civic Type R ($50,050 in Canada, $42,894 in the US) has a lot to prove. Not only does it have to succeed its highly-regarded previous generation, but it needs to go toe to toe with some serious hatchback heavyweights. Such as the Volkswagen Golf R ($47,495 CAD, $44,740) and the Ford Focus RS ($48,964 CAD, $36,775 USD) among others. Thomas and James are eager to see how this new FL5 generation of Civic Type R has been improved and how it compares to its competitors on the track and drag strip. The results aren’t always as you might expect when a new generation comes along! Let’s see how the FL5 holds up. We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching. SUBSCRIBE!

  • “No way Thomas pulls on me, I’m the only one who pulls on me” ☠️
  • "Our focus shifted to a focused man focused in a focus". One of the best statements made by thomas

It's a joy that the Type R, Elantra N, Golf R, and GR Corolla are in direct competition. All offer their own pros and cons and are fantastic cars for their respective companies.
  • @pslegends
That rolling race wasn't expected at all. I am just as shocked. Someone at Honda stuffed up big time
  • MAN, you guys bring the value. Where others merely test the Type R, you compare it
  • @AmpersandM
Great video as always. One of my favorite channels to watch. Swap wheels on the new Type R and the old one and see what the track difference will be. Next episode on Extra Throttle House
  • I love that you guys mention things nobody else does. Talking about the tire differences in track tests is crucial. Many others overlook it.

Karston's "what" when Thomas suddenly shot past him was immediately preceded by me saying the same thing in the exact same tone of voice.

I love how everyone is drifting towards the conclusion that every single car in this segment is just great. It's gotten to a point where you can legitimately pick your car just by the brand you want to drive the most, and no one can really blame you for it.
  • If Ford had kept making and improving the Focus RS, I have no doubts that it would shame the Civic and Golf in launch and rolling drags. Such a shame to see that legendary car falling by the wayside. On the other hand, I really like the new Civic! Styling and performance are spot-on.
  • Throttle house is pulling better numbers than Daddy Doug on this video with half the subscribers. Just goes to show you what constant investing back into your channel does. Hats off to you boys, you’re killing it!
  • The Golf R in the roll race shocked Karsten so much that it broke his focus in the Focus.
  • It is such a pity that the RS is done... What a great car!
  • @fueled218
The Focus RS still hanging in there with the newer models.

Opening scene had me laughing out loud!! 😂 You guys aren’t just great car reviewers you’re also entertaining as hell! 👍🏻

Great comparison video, especially between the CTR FK8 and FL5. Nice to see some of the improvements Honda's made, but as an FK8 owner I'm very happy I got my 2021 edition. Perrin motor mount upgrade is a must-do for the FK8; wheel hop is pretty much eliminated.
