  • We are on our seventh Golden. We love them so much. Abby will be our last because we are in our eighties.

if a golden retriever is wary of somebody, it probably means you should be wary of them too because goldens are so friendly and will greet anybody.

My golden heard the word "walk" in this vid. It's 1am but she still thinks its a great idea.

I found that the best way to make my Golden Retriever actually like fireworks and thunderstorms was to act excited by the noise. Initially, she was terrified by both, but after I made it clear that they were fun, she began to enjoy them as well, barking back at the thunder and bouncing like a puppy at lightning. Goldens pick up a surprisingly large amount of their behaviour and "opinions" about the world from their owners. Dogs, in general, have spent the last 15000 years, domesticating themselves, and are easily able to recognise human emotion, whereas we still struggle to recognise theirs. Being people pleasers, Goldens are quite talented in this regard, but you need to put the work in, in order to train and socialise them, because modern human society is nothing like anything that any creature on the planet evolved to endure.

In five years I have never had to yell at my girl - ever! If I did it would break her heart. As for cuddles, well she loves them and I have to avoid her at times because she thrives on them, even from my young grandsons. She the kindest, gentlest dog I’ve ever owned and does absolutely nothing wrong. Bless her 💖
  • Isolation and neglect, being ignored are torture to a Golden. They see you as family, and IMHO, everything is easier with a Golden if you see them as family as well. Forget the word 'pet'. You are adopting a family member and friend.
  • I am really enjoying your videos. I have had 4 Goldens over the years and now have a 12 week old puppy. My last dog was a Goldendoodle that I rescued when she was 6 and she passed earlier this year at 17! So this is my first puppy in many years and your videos have kept me sane. I like the fact that the videos are short and to the point. Thank you!

my golden is actually different, he loves relaxing and being alone sometimes and he doesnt eat right away, he actually waits maybe 30 mins to an hour and a half before eating but he is very cudly and loves to explore

To prevent food protection make them sit and wait before serving them. We also put my pups food in a treat ball and he goes nuts flipping it over with his nose to get the treats out. Even picking it up and moving it when it gets stuck. That's what we did and it worked pretty well anyways.

basic fact: golden retrievers are very intelligent beings and know very well when you do something with good intention or not. So, even when you do something they normally don't like very much, they still can be very tolerant and, to a certain degree, come to appreciate it (if there is good intention).
  • Just wanna say you’re a genius at marketing your videos. I’ve been on a train of your videos for like 3 hours man, great great job.
  • I loved my golden retriever he was 14 we had him from 8 weeks old he died cancer it broke my heart he was beautiful when I was unhappy he knew he'd come over to me I miss him so much it breaks your heart when you lose them
  • @Roonasaur
6:26 Ok, the thing you're missing here . . . when you train your puppy to allow interference during meal time . . . Yes, you get in there and take away their food, but only if you're going to put a nice treat on top for them. Take away the kibble, put a nice-sized piece of sausage on top and give it back to them. They'll quickly learn that they don't need to guard their bowl.
  • I had three consecutive Golden’s over 43 years. Yep. First one, Christian, lived to 16. Second one, Alex, lived in Europe with us an made it to 12. The third one, Zach, made it to 15. Lost him three years ago and just haven’t had the heart to get a fourth. Zach wS a very special dog.

I Have a lovely Golden Retriever called Linda, she´s now 7 years old , for her the only 2 hated things on your list are the Sudden Noise ( loud or low ) and she doesn´t like to go to some places, the rest of your list is okay for her, she likes the shower, she likes being groomed and brushed, and yes she likes the routine, it´s amazing when her food time comes she goes and sits beside the food bag showing funny face , she likes to be hugged and kissed and play , she trys to talk ..lol very lovely breed, I´m not gonna change this breed at all, Thanks for the video

Getting my first golden retriever Thursday and trying for service dog your vids are all I’m watching
  • How can anyone get mad at a Golden. Look at that face. It’s a happy face that looks like it’s smiling.
  • @KBArchery
We are blessed already w our 8 month old puppies. We took them to the cabin and our neighbor was target practicing. The other next door neighbor dogs get so scared they run away. Our puppies completely ignored the sound. Didn’t phase them a bit. And he shot all kinds of loud guns for over an hour!
