The Python MK2 - Worthy of the Name "Python"? [Elite Dangerous Ship Review]

Published 2024-05-21
The Python MK2 - the first new ship in the Elite galaxy for over 6 years. It's Faulcon DeLacy's successor to the venerable Python MK1 - a ship that paved the way for all ships with it's modular internals and arguably the best medium multi-role ship.

It's a fine looking ship, but does 600 years of improvements make it a better ship, or is it an imposter that doesn't deserve to bear the name Python?
Question is, does it feel like a luxury ship?

In this video, I go through my personal impressions on this ship.

I'm glad it's not a Python clone to be fair, a beast of a ship in it's own right. A great first offering, however I'm looking forward to the next in line Type 8.

My guess to why it's not a multirole ship is to not make the mk1 obsolete, which would make all the people that invested all the time, effort and money (in-game and real) very unhappy

I've been having a great time with the Mk II, flying it exclusively until it came time to beat up on Hadad. But while its obvious lineage invites comparison with the Mk I, the use cases for the two ships are sufficiently different that I don't see the point. The Python is a multirole ship. The Mk II is not. I love them both and have plenty of use for both.

Its a big improvement on the looks of the Python Mk 1 thats for sure

Great video. One thing I don't get is why in all the reviews everybody focuses so much on the prices of stuff, given how easy it is to make money in the game.... Was it not as easy as it is today years ago?

You realize this is a combat ship (PVP). Optional internal was always going to be limited.

For the life of me, I don't understand how these developers overlook immersion when it comes to these spaceships. If a ship has a co-pilot seat or other stations, simply put NPCs in them to give the feel of having crew. They can have simple animations at whatever station they are at and they don't have to do anything else.

Been watching yer ship reviews. Just finished yer Asp scout one then hit this one up. the little insert on it here made me laugh.

The downsized fuel tank seems like a really weird decision tbh. It's weird having to scoop every third jump

I do love the agility of it. Also loving your videos as always, I have a new channel so here is a sub from that too! I made a cannon and a frag build of it - let down by dodgy engineering and sleep deprived skill in my videos! I am going to redo them.

This ship is actually the best cold running titan bomber with shields.
  • @Underb00t
Looks like this ship is built as a fast response interceptor. I gotta wait for a few months to get my hands on it.
  • @spaceman022
At least real money for it is temporary. so im fine waiting

THE SHIP NAME !!!! Monkey Island is goated!!

Why does FDev care about Elite all of a sudden?
  • Basically this ship is: take the python mk1 remove its best attribute being a very good multi role ship in exchange give a better turn radius. Seems to me this ship was designed for pvp. Worse general stats in exchange for better pvp stats.
  • Sir, Sir. No, Sir. I must protest. You extracted the urine with the Asp Scout. The Asp Scout is the master of High Grade Emissions. It is the best ship in the game for High Grade Emissions. Now, the much lauded Cobra can not claim to be the best ship in the game at anything. It's claim to fame is that it can do everything...badly. This plebe looks forward to kicking the tyres of the Python Mk II in a few months. Can you help me out as you mentioned it? I was massively underwhelmed by the FDL. I used a Huge Multi Cannon Overcharged - Auto Loader and the rest beams, Long Range - Thermal Vent. It just seems to take forever to take a ship down compared to the Python. Sticking to gimballed weapons (can't hit a cows arse with a banjo for Fixed Weapons) what loadout will get the best out of the FDL?

The ship makes no sense. How does a ship that is physically larger than a python mk1 have a smaller power plant, smaller power distributor, smaller fuel tank, and not even a third of the optional internal space? is the ship hollow? or does the extra 2 utility slots and single extra hardpoint really take up half of the ship?
  • @Powerhauz
The Python is the all-around best ship in the game. There is no doubt about it. Everything else is a variant of its glorious abilities Python w/centered seat and a pointless fighter bay for less cargo? Kr8 mk2 Python with medium cargo capability like a T7? Type 8 Python for pvp? Python Mk2. Large Python? Anaconda...lol.
