In 2005, Marvel and EA signed a multi game deal with EA to produce a series of Marvel fighting games. The result was Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. Marvel Nemesis included characters such as Daredevil, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Venom, and Human Torch against original EA characters named, "The Imperfects." Marvel Nemesis received both poor critical and financial success, causing it to be the only game to release within the Marvel/EA contract. But was it really that bad though? In this video, we'll go through every detail of Marvel Nemesis and discuss where it went wrong, as well as what it did right.

This is one of those games that makes you feel like you’re from a different timeline because nobody I ever speak to remembers this game
  • The game where I first heard Spidey curse. "You know what we call that, we call that a web-slingin ass kickin!"

I feel like they could remaster this, add Doom and Cap to the main roster, tweak the auto target, lighting and it'd be totally worth it

The character designs, the atmosphere, and the tone of the story was very immersive. Everyone looked scary and the places seem dystopian and lifeless as it was devoid of colors, really set the serious tone and it made you constantly look behind you to avert danger. This game is amazing! Wish we could get a remaster or reboot

Nothing screams more 2000’s marvel than this game. The Ultimate/2000’s film inspired look, the edgy aesthetic, and the all around feeling that they kinda just didn’t really know fully how this project was gonna go or really what to do with it.

I remember watching the opening scene as a kid and seeing hulk get taken down by those gliders and going "bullshit" so loud my grandmother said "what did you say!?"

I remember playing this all the time on GameCube and trying to beat the game for hours and hours in one sitting because I didn’t have a memory card

i loved how dark/creepy both the game's aesthetic and the story were Especially in the game's intro where the city is almost in ruins while you can see the Avengers being defeated so easily when they are supposed to earth's mightiest heroes just seeing Cap's shield on a wall with no sign of him, Punisher's banner and weapons on the ground with no sign of him and HULK getting tossed from a building and losing his form like this...really sets the vibe of the game The art style is also uncanny somehow, in the Versus menu you can see all the characters with different poses but the thing is that instead of being fancy to indicate that they are heroes, they look ordinary? mixed with these realistic features on the clothing and their faces
  • @Deadpool....
Spider-man's and venom's corrupted skins imo were some of their coolest designs ever

Dude this game was so unique. Nothing like it since. It left me with such an impression as kid never forgot it.
  • To me it’s crazy that this game wasn’t better known, I spent so many hours after I finished the main story and side missions just making scenarios in my imagination. I loved everything about this game and seeing a modern version would be interesting

Hands down, this was my one of my favorite marvel games to ever exist 🙌. I just never knew how to do the "fatalities". I'd just button mash and sometimes it'd work lol

I remember a match where you had to beat Elektra as Daredevil while you're 'bleeding out from a knife wound' so you lose health constantly and quickly. It was hard af.
  • I would absolutely LOVE a revamped or a remastered version of this game. I remember playing this everyday I got home from school with my brothers.
  • I really love Jae Lee's art for Iron Man something about it is so cool the red and silver looks great and seeing 2 glowing eyes on the helmet of the armor is genuinely great and kinda scary
  • For the longest time I thought I was the only person on Earth who knew about this game. The character intros and outros are pure nostalgia. Absolutely a product of its time.

Man, that opening intro to the story mode with the news report is a lot more intense than I remember though.
  • @PavethaWay
Marvel Nemesis had alot of Def Jam NYC elements: character victory dialog, dark scenery, item pick ups, rage/Blaze mode for finishers.

If I recall, Marvel ACTUALLY does own the rights to the Imperfects. It was discovered when an Artist for "Marvel Universe vs Avengers" accidently put the Imperfect Hazmat in a groupshot instead of Hazmat from Avengers Academy. I think that since the game was contract work with a copyright, any new characters automatically went to the copyright holder and not the game publisher. If EA wanted to own the characters, then they would've had to produce something involving them in a standalone product prior to Marvel Nemesis
  • "I injected myself with all of the synthetic antigens I had developed..." I used to love watching those Imperfects' videos.
