Bringing back dinosaurs would probably end in an… unfortunate outcome, as the Jurassic Park franchise has shown us countless times.

But I can’t deny, I’ve still always been interested in the concept of a responsibly-run prehistoric reserve where nothing goes wrong and the dinosaurs don’t eat you. That’s the basic concept behind the fictional park of Prehistorica, a biological nature preserve where resurrected dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals are treated with care and the fences actually work.

And since we sadly can’t truly visit Prehistorica, for this entry into the archive, I’ll be taking on the role of tour guide and giving you a glimpse of the well-managed prehistoric reserve that I think we’ve all wanted to vacation at…

For real, I need more "realistic" prehistoric wildlife sanctuary.
  • @GreysToons
I don’t know if this is entirely indicative of the project as a whole but I love how it seems to focus on relatively obscure prehistoric critters like archelon and majungasaurus.

The park I have always wanted to visit is Prehistoric Park, where I could see a deinosuchus and an arthropleura on the same trip. And maybe even meet Nigel Marvin while I'm there!

I like how this idea incorporates a lot of the stuff from Jurassic Park, but, like, competently.
  • The dinosaur renders look great, but as Jurassic Park's paleobotanist Ellie Sattler observed, it's easy for people to forget that like all living things, dinosaurs were part of a complete ecosystem that includes plants. It's a shame a lot of these projects miss the opportunity to represent more realistic paleoenvironments, given the amount of data that is now available.

my day be so fine, then boom, archive posts and it gets 10x better

JP: It does exactly what I do! Prehistorica: Yes, but better.
  • Imagine working there and having to retrieve a hat or phone dropped from the walkway of the Brachiosaurus enclosure lol
  • This makes me miss zoo tycoon, having dinosaurs next to normal animals. wheres my compatibility patch Frontier!
  • @germanomagnone
it's pretty cool, it reminds me of a 2006 Prehistoric Park mockumentary with Nigel Marven.
  • @Zichie
The problem isnt the dinosaurs its the density of Jurassic park we have been containing animals as long as we've had history. If we just brought back one or two species at a time per park we would be completely fine.

I would have to take issue with the feeding of "lab grown meat" for the carnivorous dinosaurs. As apex predators, and carnivores in general, their first choice of a kill is the organ meat - this supplies much more needed nutrition than simple muscle meat. As a former zoo employee, I know that carnivores are fed diets that contain large quantities of organ meats, even if it's in kibble form. For carnivorous birds, entire small mammals (rodents) and birds (chicks) are simply put into a large commercial blender and pulsed into a slurry. Large reptiles are fed entire rodents, including the fur, all of which is a source of vitamins, minerals and micro-nutrients. Muscle meat is not the best overall diet.

Honestly nothing is more annoying than hearing people say “omg you can’t clone animals! Muh muh dinosaur movie from the 90’s says so!” Yea and I’m sure Jaws perfectly shows shark behavior.
  • I love the idea of a more realistic dinosaur park so that's pretty dope and I love it.

There's another project depicting a similar concept called Eden Paleozoological Park, it's made by the same guy that create Serina! Although I think he's done with the project, but still there's a ton of things already done for the project that you can cover. From the tragic tale of Jane the Australopithecus to the story of a Deinocheirus and Gallimimus hybrid.
  • Oh, a safer sort of Jurassic Park. That's interes- >immediately show people in a vehicle riding in the middle of a herd of torosauruses ... 'safe'
  • @killgriffinnow
If this was real it would be humanity’s most amazing achievement. We would literally have brought the past back…that would be monumental!
  • @adrianradu2332
Imagine this for a second: We know it's impossible to bring back the dinosaurs because DNA does not survive that long, but, what if we had a large zoologic park with replica dinosaurs scattered around, and I mean truly realistic reconstructions, with feathers and all we know about them today (and in the future). Imagine sound systems from each dinosaur that would make the most realistic sound we could possibly know they made, and that sound would be heard accross all the park. You would have so many dinosaurs, from tiny velociraptors scattered across the forest floor, hunting for insects and prehistoric mammals, to the largest sauropods. There would be pterosaurs hung around, some large ones on the ground, looking like giant storks, etc. This could also be a theme natural park, with restaurants and stuff. It's nowhere near as impressive as a fantasy Jurassic Park, but it's definitely something we could do and it would be highly educative for everyone. I know I would love it!
  • @dinomation
I love how well thought out the ideas are in this park.
  • And now I feel inspired to make my own prehistoric-zoo concept.
