Donna Reed: My Aunt, Her Mother. It’s A Wonderful Life & How The World Has Changed.

I have seen every episode of The Donna Reed Show multiple times. It would be wonderful if I could watch them all again in color.

I just happened upon your YouTube channel because I was reading about Donna Reed on Wikipedia, and the reason I was on Wikipedia reading about Donna was because I have been on a "DONNA REED SHOW" watching binge since I have been recuperating from a left inner thigh ripped tendon. Don't even know how I did it but I'm 69 y.o. so that probably explains it. I had to let you know what a wonderful interview it was with Mary! And, I have become just as find of her as I am of her mom! Of course I watched the Donna Reed Show when I was a kid in the sixties, and reruns, but have been binging on the show which I watch on HULU now. Tell Mary, that I put on the DRS at night when I'm falling asleep, because it's so comforting to me, and takes me back to a time when life was simpler, and felt more towards others. The show has a lot of wonderful moral lessons as well, that would be highly valuable to kids growing up now, especially the way the world has become lately. I know that kids have it more difficult than back when the show depicts, so the old classic family shows, especially Donna Reed's show, are important to show people that families are important, as well as community. So now I can honestly say that I have seen every episode a few times. Donna Reed was a very special lady, and an important woman for film and TV, for then and know. And that says a lot about who a person is. She is timeless. Thanks so much for this interview, and thrilled that I found it by happenstance!

If you and Mary do this again, I’d like to hear more about her mom’s involvement in Another Mother for Peace. I used to hear how Donna and Mary would drive off to an old warehouse where a group of them would prepare and mail envelopes to politicians in Washington to try to end our involvement in the Vietnam war. At one point Donna went to Congress, and according to Paul Petersen she confronted Henry Kissinger. At any rate, Donna Reed is one of the very, very few Hollywood stars I have never heard anything negative about. A lady of quiet strength whom everybody loved and respected.

Our theatre near Vancouver, B.C. plays it every other year and so I have seen it a couple of times in the theatre. It was such a special experience. Everyone clapped and called out Merry Christmas at the end of the film. This is a highly enjoyable interview. Thank you so much.

Donna Reed was paid $20,000 for her first movie role in "It's a Wonderful Life" which is equivalent to about $800,000 in today's money. Not too shabby.
