One of my personal favorite photos. At the time this was taken she had her first job out of UT Austin: she was Assistant Dean of Women at Houston Tillotson College! That didn't last long: she said the old lady dean didn't care for her 'Fro and her 'influence' on the coeds.

When the photo above was taken, Shirley was Assistant Dean of Women at Huston Tillottson College in Austin, Texas. Music and marriage got in the way of her academic career though.......as it was her destiny.

I absolutely love this song, I actually remember hearing it on a jazz station here in Dallas back in the 90's and her name has been ingrained in my mind ever since. If I may ask, would anyone know if she has any recordings available?
