Memorializes recorded works of jazz artist Shirley Tennyson-McFatter (aka, Shirley McFatter), 1947-1994..
Shirley spent her career in Dallas, Texas, her hometown, earning the title, Dallas Queen of Jazz, at her passing. She helped found the South Dallas Cultural Center, was cofounder of the first jazz festival series in the Dallas Arts District, and shared the stage locally with many local and internationally renowned artists. She preferred live performing and did very little studio work. This site will present what is available. Shirley worked with every veteran and novice jazz musician in the North Texas area, including: David "Fathead" Newman (headlined Shirley McFatter Memorial Jazz Festival), Clark Terry, James Earl Clay, Professor Roger Boykin, Claude Johnson, Red Garland, Onzie Matthews, Buster Smith, Fran Gaddison, Robert Sanders, and Marchel Ivery, James Gilyard, Keith Anderson, Alex Camp, Andrew Griffith, Red King, et al.
