HOW TO SHIRR FABRIC:    • How To Shirr Fabric | Shirring Tutorial   ✂️

I've been seeing a lot of shirred clothing suddenly pop up in the fashion world! Shirred tops and shirred dresses seem to be a BIG hit right now, especially paired with micro florals, gingham and polka dots. And don't forget that square neckline. Luckily it suits my new "French style" very well indeed!
In this video I am going to show you how to flip last-season's oversized off-shoulder shirt into this season's square-neck shirred blouse, with puffy sleeves! (Inspired by this Reformation top: www.thereformation.com/products/clementine-top that is sadly way outside my budget)

When I was young (in the 70's), my favourite top of all time, was a shirred top similiar to the one you just made, except that it was white with lime polka dots (micro). I may be 57, but I am going to go looking for a lime polka dotted shirt to up-cycle. I will have my favourite top again!

ASOS is 110% a fast-fashion brand. That's why we have to learn to make our own clothes! You're doing the world a service by sharing these tutorials. Bless you!!
  • @IreneRudnyk
I think I really need to upgrade my sewing machine! That would be still cheaper than buying all reformation clothes I want haha
  • Could you do some comfy office-wear? I have fibro and CFS so by the end of the day I just want to wear something soft and stylish

My grand ma used to make me sundresses out of leftover fabric and the top we all all shurring but the bottom was a bunch of different fabrics, almost like cute frakenstine
  • @hannayoung9657
Shirring was popular in the 70:ties , early 80:ties and in the 90:ties seams to come back from time to time.
  • @soffialv2209
It took you an hour to shirred the whole thing?! I did one yesterday and it took me 5+ hours, and didn't even finish, my body was aching so I gave up for the day... I'm truly amazed at your speed! I really admire it

I think youtube is buggy, because your shirring tutorial doesn't show the right number of views! Obviously the real one is in your video, there are no other possibilities. And BTW, I LOVED seeing Cher react to your stuff, soooo good. Hope Everest was fun and that you climbed down safely! Thanks for all of your work!

Awesome I have always wanted to try shirring but wasn’t sure how. You made it so easy ! I will try it thanks also thanks for talking about the invisible illnesses I was an emergency room nurse for 20 years. I was left with Rheumatoid Arthritis and PTSD and I am afraid if I show it people will feel sorry for me. I don’t want pity I would like help. Thank for being an advocate take care of your self.
  • @lexyesss
Ugh amazing! I'm obsessed with the neckline and could never figure out how to do it... This is a huge help. Thanks Annika!
  • @sekaihatsu
I'm not a a fan of shirred fabric but I am always a fan of your videos. Lookin' cute in that vest! Take care and good luck with your projects.
  • This is really a piece that a lot of love and elbow grease has gone into and it looks great! Since I watched your first video about shirring I wonder if this method will work better than the one I learned some years ago from Burda Style. They suggested to hold elastic thread onto the fabric while sewing a narrow zigzag over it without inserting the needle into it and then pull on the elastic when you are done with the row. It worked fine for me and you dont have to wind the bobbin by hand so you might wanny give it a try. Your method looks more professional though.
