I would LOVE to see a video on how you made this frame. I can sort of see your explanation in my head but it would be really nice to see how it is done. I have several finished, rolled artworks that need to be stretched and varnished and would like to be able to make my own stretcher frames w/o the cross bars. I have not finished the paintings because of the cost of the stretcher bars- the heavy duty ones make the final cost of my artworks too high. Thanks for your reply....

I’ve seen and enjoyed your video on stretcher bars and made around 50 following the technique you demonstrated. Art stores sell stretcher bars that don’t require gluing and fastening. What kind of joint is that? I want to call it a mitered double bridle joint, but I’m not sure. I’ve made 4 or 5 of those. Still learning how to do it, though. Would love to see you make them.
  • Hi Jon Peters! Great tutorial! 👏🏼 thank you so much! I have a question. Do you put any thing underneath frame? I mean between the frame and the canvas ... it’s a shadow that I see ... seems like it... thank you

Pollock painted on unstretched canvas on floor. I think he primed it with rabit skin glue. How could they then simply take it and stretch it after it was painted on?

Thanks. I just got a Wacom Splash tablet to do digital art work. Might try the real thing some day.

Do you use the plier for the first four staples ?

Roll it out on the floor of a barn???? Heck yeah, that's what I'm talking about!! If it worked for Jackson it'll certainly work for the likes of my lil ole dining room.
  • Hi Jon very nice tips you have here in this video. I'm a complete noob to canvas and the stretching of them. I've just ordered a very nice piece that is already completed and since the prices of getting something stretched seems to be extremely high in price I was wanting to do a DIY to keep my wallet in check. However there in lies my dilemma, I am a bit too cautious when it comes to these things and am scared I might accidentally tear the canvas print when stretching it. Is canvas an easy material to tear by any chance? Thank you in advance!
