Legendary producer Jimmy Jam joins Diallo Riddle and LUXXURY to break down the making of Janet Jackson’s classic album, “Control”. Jimmy takes us inside the studio and breaks down the process of getting to know Ms. Jackson (if you’re nasty) and creating a sound and attitude that worked for her. This is the first of a two-part special with Jimmy Jam.

New here? On each episode of this music podcast friends Diallo Riddle (Emmy-nominated star and creator of HBO Max’s South Side and IFC’s Sherman’s Showcase) and Blake ""LUXXURY"" Robin (Music Producer & TikTok creator) will hilariously break down ONE SONG from the pop music canon that you know - or need to know - but have never heard quite like this.

I love hearing stories from Jimmy. Any discussion about or around Janet and I’m all ears.

This was a great, informative interview. A bit of feedback: The host shouldn’t ask a question and then interrupt the guest while he’s trying to answer the question posed.

The only Ensoniq preset I can find that might fit Jimmy Jam’s description of the Nasty sounds is the disk with “Tympello” on the left side of the keyboard and “Wooden Flutes” on the right.

This channel is still in its infancy stage, and they're killing it. It's about to go crazy tho!
  • AAs someone for whom the Control album was THE album of 1986 for me, and is still far and away my favourite album by ANY artist for me (I'm more a singles guy anyway), I love this interview: all the BTS stuff and hearing the breakdowns. It's truly fascinating and educational. Only thing would have made this better would have been to hear Jimmy's approach to remixing the tracks from the album for the clubs!

Nasty is by far the best song on that album. Its got a je ne sais quoi that has aged very well

can yall please talk to jimmy about the unbreakable. It is the one number one album that janet had that isn't talked about enough. It's my favourite Janet album as a Gen-Z person
