This time on one song: Mosquitos and libidos. That’s right, Diallo and LUXXURY are off on a sonic adventure with Nirvana’s 1991 grunge rock juggernaut, Smells Like Teen Spirit. Hear why Diallo thinks it’s one of the most important songs in pop culture, and strap in for some rarely heard Kurt Cobain vocal stems. There’s also a lot of talk about blap-um-blap-um drum patterns.

Album: Nevermind
Released: 1991
Genres: Grunge, Alternative rock, Hard rock

I'd love to hear you guys take on something like Nu Metal and talk about what bands were and werent and which bands were annoyed with the label.

I used to work at a restaurant where the KM was a huge metalhead. I asked him what was the best show he’d been to. He said he saw Nirvana at a small club in WA in 88’/89’ and said the crowd was losing their fxcking minds bcuz nobody had ever heard rock music like that before 🔥 so dope

Another Gap Band song using that drum fill and non-music intro is Party Train.

The verse drums from Blur’s “Song 2” are nearly identical to the chorus from Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” The story of the riff from “Come As You Are” has its own story.

Another interesting thing about this song...the lead vocal is so classical and operatic sounding...the guitars are so super simple and rhythmic and catchy... ...the lead vocal in harmony with the guitars is very really especially complex and complicated!

Song 2" was intended to be a joke on the record company, they wanted to release the song as a single to "blow the flipping record labels' heads off".

I think we know that Kurt influenced her. I think she’s talented but once he died Hole’s production dried up. It was rumored he wrote a lot of the 1994 tracks

I was 6 when Nevermind came out. It would probably be another 10 years or so before I understood the impact that album had.
