Apple’s HomePods sound better when stereo paired together, but when is it worth it to spend the money for a pair of them, is the HomePod worth it versus the main competition from Sonos, and for TV sound, should you get a pair of HomePods to use with an Apple TV and new HomePod eArc feature or go with the more traditional sound bar for your TV setup?

We'll explore all of these topics and give you the rundown on who we think a stereo pair of HomePods is ultimately for and if your money is better spent going with a pair of Sonos Ones, or even looking at the more expensive Sonos Move speakers which come with battery.

When you are looking for a HomePod review and you see a sonos advertisement

I love my dual HomePod setup, but recently we rented an Airbnb that had a Sonos sound bar that I was able to AirPlay to and man I was blown away with the sound coming out of it. And they only had the sound bar hooked up, not the woofer and other speakers they had sitting around. Can’t imagine how it would’ve sounded with everything connected.

I bought two without even thinking about it. It was at least 2 or none.

Hi Josh where can I find the video you mention on 10:35 I can’t seem to find it on YouTube anymore.

Thanks for the opinion :). I have one, use it for music and smart home base. I have 5.1.2 for my small room for tv/movies.

Beam alone doesn’t sound nearly as good as 2 HomePods. You have to get a sub for a fair comparison.

Unfortunately my room is small and doesn't lend it self to an ideal set up for a hi-fi pair, without doing some DIY with a shelf under my TV and the repair the old holes & paint.....just a pain in the arse. However for music even the one speaker sounds brilliant, would recommend for music only, not TV

I have two HomePod Minis connected to my Apple TV. The eARC feature works well and for me the sound quality is really good for 200 dollars.

I'm buying a pair of the Era 100 or 300 as long as they have the room adjust feature built in for Android. I want to upgrade my Nest Audio pair.
  • @Matt-fd9hc
Bought two of them and obviously they aren’t the best but they’re good. But no regrets

The only problem with SONOS for me is you need a soundbar for it to work with the ERA speakers. I literally just want to connect my tv to 2 ERAS wirelessly as rear speakers which isn't possible. So technically connecting my tv to 2 HOMEPODS or 2 HOMEPOD MINIS is a cheaper choice especially if you're simply using it in the bedroom.

    Are these speakers Blutoothable?
  • @KuyaArbee
still rather have a soundbar :/ the 2 home pods miss a lot of the frequency

HomePods are way better than Sonos Ones. They will also be cheaper than the Era 300s. This was an odd video. Feels like it was sponsored by Sonos.
  • I bought a pair of Sonos Era100. The worst ever experience in setting up and the quality was not so great as they advertise. In less than 8hours I asked a refund for my $550. If you don’t want headaches, dismiss the Sonos wireless systems.
